I think a lot of you are trying to find fault in what the staff are saying here.
They’ve said, multiple times I’ll add, it’s not currently something that they have the infrastructure or ability to have in the simulator. In no way is that “they don’t want to add it”. They have given you a justified reason as to why currently it cannot be added. That’s not to say it won’t come in the future, but at this current present time it isn’t feasible.
I see a lot of people bringing up other simulators. Other simulators sacrifice quality in the aircraft models, the systems, the physics, the scenery quality etc to have more liveries, and often they are incomplete or of a lower quality. Other simulators are programmed differently, have other priorities etc. There is currently no mobile simulator on the market that is as detailed and as accurate as IF.
There’s no personal motive for the staff not to do it. There is evidently, from a technical standpoint, a justified reason as to why it cannot currently be added.
If we ever go down this road, from what I understand some of what Philippe is working on (Project Metal comes into it) would help, yes. The main goal is to make it so that the number of liveries showing on screen is inconsequential (bandwidth, etc etc).
That’s because RFS doesn’t have some sort of verification process for user-created liveries, which can give off the impression of sloppy, rushed, and unofficial liveries, which is the last thing Infinite Flight needs.
I can tell you now! IF cares about its users. They are wanting to put this out but not until it is 100% ready for the game and it’s users. Which is another reason why RFS and other mobile sims are not compatible! Don’t think they don’t care because they do. Let them do their thing but I do agree our votes on this feature is not a wast it shows how bad we want this!
I think implementing this would help IF get more aircraft and reworks because they would not have to do the liveries and can move to the next project.
I’m still hoping for this to happen but it might happen BUT…since next update is about new liveries on each compatible aircraft looks like we might have to do that too as it could be close
Totally agree with you! We most probably going to need to wait for Project Metal in order to have such a feature, but I’m not giving up, and I’m waiting it with all of my heart!
Regarding what you said at first, I did not mean that at all, sorry! I just wanted to say that it do not holds quite a priority at this time, because the game doesn’t have the software needed, but with Project Metal, this thing may be posible!☺️
Have custom liveries usable in solo mode only. That way they can be stored locally on the device and not interfere with other users experiences. And maybe have a small number of very high quality user created liveries that are approved by staff and then implemented for use in online mode.
I’m not any kinda developer so this probably wouldn’t work.
I would love to see this be implemented!
I think the most practical way would be a category on the IFC for user liveries, where the files could be uploaded for iOS/android. With that a specific replacement livery would be selected to depict the closest ingame livery to the custom one (i.e someone makes a Delta Skyteam 738, it would appear as a standard DL 738 to anyone who doesn’t have it downloaded)
In addition, an IF sanctioned group, similar to the IFAET could be created to internally approve liveries and provide support. And then all liveries produced and approved would be released to the IFC for public download. However as a caveat a user may create a livery for personal use that would not be allowed to be shared via IFC, but would be only used privately, or via direct sharing between users ( a couple of examples being custom personal liveries, low quality reproductions, fictional VA’s, or certain copyrighted liveries)
This would obviously take a lot of work to implement, but it would really open up new possibilities and help further diversify the portfolio of liveries in Infinite Flight.
I don’t have a technical opinion on the subject, that’s why I’m wondering why it’s so expensive to do this ?
What are the differences with IFAET ? airports take data and it’s a cost too.
If the liveries are so voluminous, Is it possible with the metar project to optimize size even more ?
Liveries are becoming really annoying for us and for devs, we need some kind of solution, many users are stopping playing IF, and some of them because of the liveries, many countries have really outdated or missing liveries such as Iberia, Aeromexico, Avianca, Tam, LATAM, LAN, Copa, Transavia, ETC.
Completely agree, it would be super good, for example in my case that I am from Colombia, we only have Avianca, we would love to have Viva Air, Wingo and among others. I know about design and I would like to support the development of Liveries, they should at least share the aircraft templates with us and we start with the creation and then they approve them and then add them.
With this we would help each other a lot: Satisfying the user and helping you in the work of creating liveries. Think about it, it would be a good idea.
