On long hauls my iPad screen goes completely black

I’m not sure if this is an issue with IF or with my device, but sometimes when I do long hauls, I am away for a bit, and when I come back my screen is completely black. It seems that my iPad turned off during the flight. It has happened quite a few times, and also happened earlier today. Is there a solution to this?

Thanks!

Hello,

What device are you using?

I use an iPad. To be more specific, when I got it in 2018 it was the newest iPad. That’s all I know I am not sure of the exact iPad name

Hello, got 2 questions for you

• Do you use low power mode while flying?

• check if you have the screen auto lock enabled?

I use low power mode but I have not checked if screen auto lock is on

Low power mode automatically close the screen if you’ve been inactive for a couple of minutes, maybe try again on another flight and see? (Make sure to disabled low power mode)

Wait is low power mode for my iPad in general or just for Infinite Flight? Because I don’t use low power mode on my iPad in general. Only the Infinite Flight low power mode that you can turn on and off in the IF settings. I don’t have low power mode on for my iPad in general

The low power mode in IF shouldn’t make the screen turn off

Oh I got confused. I don’t turn on low power mode for my whole iPad. Just the IF low power mode

So the iPad goes to sleep mode and when you open it you get asked to put your password, is that correct?

Yeah that is what happens

Well tbh if you don’t have the screen auto lock on nor your iPad’s low power mode on, I don’t know the problem but could you check if you have auto lock on ?

To check if auto lock is open do the following:

Go to settings > display & brightness > Auto lock

I usually keep auto lock on, but I am not sure if that is the reason because on most flights with auto lock on everything is fine. It is only on some flights that it happens. However, I will turn off auto lock and see if there is a difference. Thanks for your help!

If you go to Settings > General > About you can see your specific device name, if it just shows ‘iPad’ it’s the iPad 2018 9.7’ :)

Yeah I am pretty sure it is that one

It’s fine. It’s not that big of a deal though because I’d say it only happens once like every 70 flights I do.

Okay well seeing the facts, i’m not sure why this would happen since you say your screen doesn’t time out automatically. I would wait for a dev to stumble upon this.

I’m not sure if its an IF issue. I believe that it is an issue with my device, but I posted this just incase it was an IF issue, and if any other people were experiencing this same issue

Forced notifications could do this to you. You could try enabling Do Not Disturb in your iPad settings.
