OCTOBER 5th | Delightful Daytona Beach Flyout!

Delightful Daytona Beach Flyout!

Welcome to Daytona Beach!

Daytona Beach is a thriving costal tourist city on Florida’s Atlantic Coast. While the main attraction are its miles of stunning beaches, thousands are drawn to the city annually for the Daytona 500 NASCAR race, which takes place every February.

Daytona is located approximately halfway down the Florida coast, between Jacksonville and Melbourne. While many tourists choose to fly into Jacksonville or Orlando, Daytona has it’s own airport with a number of destinations throughout the United States, and is home to the famed Embry-Riddle University.

Daytona Beach International Airport

Daytona Beach International Airport (DAB/KDAB) is conveniently located across the street from the Daytona International Speedway, making for easy access to the Daytona 500.

Daytona’s first airport was built in the 1920s, and had services to Orlando. The runway was actually the beach, using a compacted sand surface to take off and land. This was quickly realized to not be a viable airport for long, as it was heavily weather and tide dependent. An airport was constructed throughout the 1940s on a 740 acre piece of land, and originally named Sholtz Field, after the state’s governor.

Today, Daytona Beach International serves a number of cities across the US, and has a thriving general aviation scene, which makes up for 62% of the airport’s operations.
