[Now Finished] Visiting the Abandoned City of Chernobyl, in partnership with IFGAC | @UMGG - 261800ZAPR20

A Scenic Flight around one of the largest abandoned cities in the world.

This Event will be partnered with Infinite Flight General Aviation Club (IFGAC) after a one busy week! This time I have a brilliant idea to fly somewhere different, rather interesting and an adventurous journey across the Ukrainian Countryside.

What is Chernobyl? Well, exactly 34 years ago, on the 26th of April 1986, a meltdown following a massive explosion took place in the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, Reactor Number 4. Chernobyl is rather considered an area and a nearby abandoned city. The dangerous dose of radiation spread across Ukraine caused the beautiful cities of Pryp’yat’ (Прип’ять) and Chornobyl (Чорнобиль) to be left abandoned immediately, leaving 50,000 people behind.

About 100,000 firefighters are honoured as the true heroes sacrificing their lives to fight the roasting Uranium fires, they were burned to death. Another explosion was to happen that could wipe out the entire European continent, this was prevented once again by the engineers, experts, Military, miners, divers, pilots and many more great people, with limited time, quick thinking and teamwork.

Today, the ruins of reactor number 4 is covered inside of a steel structure after a massive investment worth billions for the next 100 years. A thirty Kilometer Exclusion Zone is now active for the next 20,000 years.

In other news, we are also praying for the firefighters that are extinguishing massive forest and bush fires that are taking place in the Exclusion Zone, and Eastern Europe. Updated as of April 2020.

Chernobyl Air Tours is organising scenic flights around the entire region of the Exclusion Zone, which is exactly what we are going to fly for this event. They use the Cessna C172, and if you feel like taking a ride here one day, you can buy a ticket for yourself! Their website: https://www.chernobyl-tour.com/chornobyl_air_tour_en.html

Sadly I cant attend but, I do know that you can actually visit the exclusion zone on foot to see the ruins. I think you must hire a private tour guide though.

This event will now contain open IFATC Services in both airports! @Matt93 has gained permission from the leader of IFATC and will open UMGG and UKKT for about 30 minutes or more.

In other news, we have changed the arrival airport to Kyiv Sviatoshyn Airfield (UKKT), also owned by the Antonov Design Bureau Company. I have removed UKKK from our arrival list because the airport is not edited, with no gates available.

I’ll take a vacant gate.

Hey everyone!

I will be providing IFATC for this event. Please follow ATC’s instructions at all times. Please taxi respectfully, at Gomel Airport (UMGG) there is only a tower frequency, no ATIS either, the same applies at Sviatoshyn (UKKT), no ATIS. I will inform @Kuba_Jaroszczyk of the runway’s in use on the day of the event. Another thing to note, at the arrival airport Sviatoshyn (UKKT) has one taxiway only to and from the runway (On the south side of the field RWY 32).

For runway 32: Once landed please do vacate the runway asap, there is no offical turn around taxiway here so vacate the runway when able, and taxi to a vacant gate. I will use the back-taxi command instead of the exit runway command due to this. Please though don’t back-taxi the entire length of the runway, most likely there will be someone right on your tail so please expedite :)
For runway 14: Once landed, turn right and exit the runway. Please be mindful of any aircraft that may be on the ground taxiing to the runway or parking. Taxi respectfully, give way etc.

If we have departures from UKKT during the event whilst your landing, I will use certain commands like I’ll call your base, maintain slowest practical speed etc. I will use these commands to allow departures. Please do keep this in mind, if you should receive a command like this during your landing into Sviatoshyn.

Approach will now be active whilst approaching UKKT! The above still applies regardless :)

Thanks!

This sounds like a good flight, but sadly I can’t come cause it will be 4 AM here in AUS, and I woke up at dawn this morning for ANZAC day. Hope you have a good flight!
