@NorWin tracking thread

Welcome to my new tracking thread! I am preparing to enter training for IFATC but need to wait a little longer before I meet the requirements as I have only been a member of the IFC for a two weeks (i.e., don’t have TL1). Hoping that this experience will help my eventual training and tests go smoother.

I would like work on all topics including general ground work, patterns, sequencing, runway changes, departures/inbounds, go arounds (basically everything but interacting with radar controllers). I am still very much a work-in-progress so please be patient but any and all feedback is welcome. When flying, please follow normal IFATC procedures from @danii:

Please fly accordingly as you do with IFATC. Use “Remaining in the pattern” if you are doing touch-and-goes/patterns, otherwise use “Departing straight out, north, east, west, south” commands.

Airport/Status: Will be updated in title
Server: Training (no ATIS)
Frequencies: Ground & Tower

I will update in the replies on timing when I will be open to give you a heads up as well as the anticipated length. I will try to be open a couple of times a week (after 1700 zulu/utc) and maybe on the weekends. The airport location and status will be updated in the title. Looking forward to working with you all!

Looking forward to it!

Hey there! I see you’re open. I’m currently in a “group flight” with 2 other people, so I won’t be able to make it today. I could make it later at night possibly but not now. Hope to see you soon!

@danii

Will open about for about an hour @ KAUS at 1900 utc.

Feel free to join!

No problem, enjoy the group flight 😀

I’ll be there! If this is your first time controlling, I’d recommend a single-runway airport. If you already have some experience it’s totally fine!

Thanks! Yeah, let me give this one a shot, if needed we can move.

I have controlled several times before on the training server, but most of the time it involves a lot of people who don’t know what they are doing/don’t follow rules.

Haha yeah sometimes it gets annoying if you control places like EGLL or KLAX

I’ll join up right now if you’re still open

Still open! Will stick around for another 30-45 minutes.

D-DANI

  • I had to wait a bit for pushback clearance, it’s best to stay alert and quickly respond but respond correctly

  • LUAW was not necessary. I did not request take off.

  • At 20:29:00, the sequence was wrong. It should have been “Number 2, traffic to follow is on left DW.” After that I was not cleared for landing, so I went around.

  • At 20:35:52, a pattern entry and a sequence would be appropriate. (ex: “Enter left downwind, Number 2 traffic to follow is on left base.”) Turn crosswind is not ideal.

  • You did not need to expedite me as there was plenty of separation. Aircraft have to be separated at a minimum of 3NM. N1PB was 7NM out.

Note: The general speed for “exit runway” command is 60-80 IAS, typicaly around 70 IAS.

Overall, it wasn’t a bad session. Some more practice will help! Hope to see you next time!

Thanks for having me!

Here’s some feedback from me, “Test Flight 3500 Heavy”:

  • For my runway change, a couple things were wrong. You started by giving me “cleared for the option, make right traffic”. For runway changes, you are supposed to give a new pattern entry first, and then clear for the option. Also, I should be given left traffic. You did correct that when clearing me again though.

  • In my first pattern after the runway change, you never gave me a sequence and started with the “cleared for the option”. It’s usually sequence and then clearence when there is another aircraft ahead of you in the pattern.

  • For my 2nd runway change, you perfectly gave me a pattern entry and sequence which is great. However, I never recieved a landing clearence and I even reported my position to you at final. This is why I did a go-around. For my final landing after the go-around, you gave me “cleared for the option”. Avoid doing that when knowing that I’m going for a full-stop landing and just give “cleared to land”.

  • You did not need to give me a speed adjustment as there was plenty of seperation between me and the other plane on final.

  • Everything on the ground went perfectly with no errors.

These are honestly some small mistakes and you’ll do great with a little more experience. But overall not a bad session!

Feedback N1PB :

Inbound :
[20:26:29] The transition you gave is too low, namely 2500ft. it’s better if you give me a 3000ft transition because the airport elevation is 500ft

when D-DANI change runway to 18R in upwind, you can just give Pattern Entry and Sequences: Enter Right Downwind 18R, Number 2 Traffic follow is on Left Base, instead of giving Turn Crosswind, that’s wrong

[20:40:23] Here I shouldn’t get traffic direction (After for the option, make right traffic), because I’m still on runway 18R, and I already got traffic direction when I inblund Touch And Go at the beginning

[20:46:27] here you immediately give me Number 1, clear for the option, even though Test Flight 3500 has not yet crossed threshold runway 18R, so you have to give me the sequence first before you give me clearance

[20:48:29] when I change runway to 18R in Downwind you better give me Pattern Entry: Enter Right Downwind runway 18R, not Enter Right Base 18R

You initially gave me TYGD, and didn’t give me the Frequency Change Approve command, so I had to Request Frequency Change. Make sure you give the Frequency Change Approve after you respond “Deperture To The … Is Approved”

This is my feedback, otherwise no issue for me

@danii Thanks for the feedback! Yes, from your and other comments this is definitely an area I need to work on. Pattern>Sequence>Clearance for RWY changes. Sorry about missing the clearance. I think the crosswind thing was overthinking as looking back, I gave you a pattern entry already, so I just needed sequencing and clearance.

@Cactus3500 Thanks for the feedback as well! Yes, in general I need to work more on RWY changes. Sorry as well about missing your clearance. Good to know about the just giving cleared to land for the full-stop, honestly was not sure. Also was just unsure about your individual speeds, might be from watching too many sessions on the training server :) Thanks again, will ping you next time if that is ok?

For the pattern entry, I requested a runway change. You needed to give me a new pattern entry+sequence.

@TuuAvvgekk Thanks for the detailed feedback! Good to know for the transition, will just mentally note this (2500+elevation) when I open any airport from now on. Regarding the second direction at [20:40:23], this was something I was unsure about whether any pattern entry remains your pattern until a new one is given, regardless of the reason for the start, so good to know. For the sequencing, yes that was just mistimed on my part.

For [20:48:29], this was also something I wasn’t sure about. If you are already right downwind for 18L, then changing to 18R, so you are also right downwind 18R, I can just enter you the pattern where you are already, it’s not something that you have to do in addition. Makes sense, just never thought about it.

And yes, just forgot to clear the frequency change.

Thanks again, would be happy to have you join again next time!

@danii Ok looking back through the replay, I see your point. I had given you the pattern for the go around, but not for the runway change. Once your requested the runway change, then I should have responded Pattern>Sequence and then clearance for the new runway. This is clearer now, thanks!
