Another airline falls victim to the pandemic

Norwegian Air announced that it was filing for bankruptcy protection in Ireland.

The carrier received a bailout through the state in Norway, but had appealed for fresh financial support. The country’s government ruled out giving more cash to the airline.

As a result of this decision, the airline is likely to shut down its trademark long-haul routes and emerge as a simpler European regional carrier. “Our aim is to find solutions with our stakeholders that will allow us to emerge as a financially stronger and secure airline,” said CEO Jacob Schram.

I wouldn’t say it’s necessary COVID - they were financially crippled because of the 787 and 737 MAX groundings, so COVID was just the final nail in the coffin.

The writing has been on the wall on this one for a while. Hopefully they can successfully restructure and deal with there debt, but anyone who is surprised hasn’t been paying enough attention lol.
