No open doors

The FAA has banned open door flying after the Liberty helicopter accident in NYC.

Some one ask me my thoughts about this.
This is what I say. Open door flying is fun and safe if you do it safely. The safety equipment the passengers were using were not ment for this type of operation. Their equipment failed. I do not agree with the feds for doing this I think banning 5 point harnesses from flying with no quick release would of been smar.

Could you add more substance? Like what do you think about this… etc

My question would be things like USCG opens the door for visual searches, or better visuals on boat landing etc. But they are also extramly well trained would these things be exempt?

Coasties crews all go through training like HUET and know what to do in situation. Majority of the public does not. They don’t train for stuff like this.

Hmm, is this to add more safety to helicopters? I honestly think that the FAA shouldn’t do this just because one crash occurred.

Typically the Feds do this for a brief time. But banning it due to harnesses isn’t smart my 2 cent.

That is what I would assume, the milatary sometimes uses these sorts of things more as guidelines…

It sounds like they are bannung it till the harnesses are solved…

They are. The 5 point harness is meant to keep you from falling and getting out quickly. But a quick release you can get I believe

I think if they ban it forever that would stink. Photography is one of my hobbies and this is how most get good aerial shots.

It sucks! I do photography too and love doing air to air. I’ve done some with close doors but open door is the best
