Hello everyone, i just bought an Ipad and would like to play on it. Previously I always flew on android, with Samsung devices, where there is a battery conservation mode. It is able to hold the battery at a minimum battery percentage of 85% (or above exact percentage) when plugged into the charger, and will not be charged until I turn off the mode. In my opinion, this is very helpful in the game, especially during the long haul & falling asleep during the flight throughout the night.
I want to try flying with an iPad, because the performance and FPS are satisfactory. However, I am worried that battery or hardware problems will occur on my iPad. I didn’t see any battery conservation mode (or kind of that) aren’t available. The question I ask here is:
Is there a mode to do the battery holding or conservation on the Ipad so that it is held at a certain percentage so that it does not charge?
If there is no related mode, how about you iPad users who often fly long haul so that the battery is maintained?
If the two questions above cannot be done on the iPad, is it safe for the battery if, then it is attached to the charger during the long haul until the aircraft is parked at the gate perfectly?
P. S
I don’t care about high graphics, in the graphics setting, I set it to all the lowest options (except the plane texture: High). And anti alias OFF and frame rate 30. I prioritize performance over visual quality.

Before long flights, I always charge my iPad to 100%. I keep all graphics on the lowest settings, set the time to sunset, and position the camera at the floor (makes it super dark and saves battery). Plus, I’ve got a smart plug when I’m out and need to charge if needed. Never had any issues doing this, even on long hauls!
Interesting, does your iPad screen works same like AMOLED?
Because my iPad has only IPS Retina and i think this should be no problem if i don’t have to set the time to sunset. I always love to fly as realism as possible by current time settings
I think the only thing comapable to battery conservation mode is low power mode… I personally don’t use it.
I usually just plug my ipad in with a slow charger for overnight flights and it seems to do the trick. I haven’t had battery issues so you should be fine.
I use a 20w sometimes and 15w other times. There are rare occasions when I must use a 96w, and in those cases I try to drain the battery before flight
FYI I use an iPad Air 5th Gen
My device is the iPad Pro 2021. I don’t know if I have this feature or not, but since I bought the device, I have been doing the steps mentioned above. I didn’t face any problems at all.
2.- generally its bad to charge the ipad and use it at the same time. But if the iPad is large, it will not heat up as much as an iphone and thus it wont be as bad.
3.- i recommend use battery saving mode (infinite flight setting, not ipad setting) it will reduce fps to 10 when you dont tap the screen for a few minutes.
Yea, dont’t worry i’ve always turned this helpful mode on. But i have one more question…
then, you said in point number 2 if plugging into a power source is less safe. What if I have activated the power saving mode in the Infinite Flight, then let it charge to 100% on an overnight long hauls?
im not sure if i understand.
If you mean charge it to 100 during a flight with power save mode on, that should be fine.
On a new ipad, youll need to charge it once per 4h (at least on my 10th generation 10.9 inch) so you wont need to do it a lot.
What i do is charge it to 100 before a flight, so i can avoid charging it while using, because even though it isnt as bad, it still isnt healthy. Kinda like drinkink cocacola xd
So, in the middle of an overnight flight, and your battery runs out, you have to wake up just to charge it?
Yes, I mean continuously not removing the charger from the power source, even though the battery is already at 100%. Is is still counted as unhealthy or smth ?
The way I run it is that I normally charge it while I’m present (to about 80-90, or for overnights 100) and then I’ll just unplug it when I’m away. These new iPads have such insane battery life, you can go 10-12 hours between 80 and 20% so its no problem at all.
If it’s a iPad Pro or air with a USB-C system use a laptop charger it will charge your iPad so quick I do it for my long flights and with in 30 or so minutes it’s at 100%
Thanks for the input. Have your ever forget or overslept at night and you and have 100% overcharged? Im worrying the battery health since there is no battery health status on my iPad.
Yes I definitely have left it charging on 100 on many occasions (although I try not to). I don’t know if it has a battery health indication (nor can I check bc it’s not with me), but what I can tell you is that I’ve put in multiple thousand hours on it and it still easily lasts through an overnight only using like 40-60%. It may be slightly degraded since new but I can’t really tell a difference.
Pretty sure it should’ve been degraded.
I understand even though I haven’t tried it. Based on my experience on my Android, this is quite noticeable during light use. Once I used it for infinite flight without the charger, the battery drained quite quickly. Once again, thank you!
I dont do overnight flights.
Charging it even though it still is at 100 is apparently even worse than just charging it while using it.
It is unhealthy and youll start to see it if you do it very often, so try to avoid doing so.
You can also leave the flight, charge, and come back using the flight resume feature
