New Boeing CEO: Robert K. Ortberg

Boeing has finally found a new CEO and has announced it this morning.

The new CEO and executive director is Robert K. “Kelly” Ortberg. Robert is an experienced engineer, an aerospace veteran with over 30 years of experience (and liked by the employees from his former position at Rockwell Collin’s), who will have the difficult task to turn things around for Boeing. He is expected to take over Calhoun’s position at August 8th.

Great move by Boeing for hiring an experienced engineer to the top position. Now they’ll have to focus on rebuilding the reputation, and come back as a great company again.

Honestly, it’s a great pick. Former mechanical engineer and not just an MBA grad with no engineering experience. Also saw a post that he’s choosing to be based in Seattle near the factories rather than at the HQ in Virginia. Would be nice if this eventually leads to the HQ being moved back west.

Also, an outsider, with no links to anyone in Boeing. Great choice to be honest. I hope they do move back to SEA, since it would bring them closer to the factory!
