Im currently at the gate, about to depart in about 30 minutes on my route to Auckland from JFK. I’m currently using a 787-9 for my flight, but I would love tips on how to conserve my fuel upon departure.
i dont use the 787 at all but is 111% necessary for this flight? either way, flaps 15-20 and a higher than usual n1 with around 155-160 V1 and you should be fine for take off. to conserve fuel use the step climb method.
You should not be taking off above MTOW (100% weight)
Reduce the amount of passengers and cargo (keep max fuel) so that you are at/below MTOW.
They are in the 787, not an Airbus. So Flaps 15 would probably be appropriate.
alr corrected it
It’s about 17 hours, so idk, I’m reduce the cargo down though, idk why it gave me so much
well like benny said, bring down the passengers and cargo till the plane is under MTOW
nvm i gave up on the flight, kinda sucks
Kinda late here but my main fuel saving tips would be:
- Step climb
- Don’t go over the average cruise speed (in the 787’s case it’s usually M .84-.85)
- Don’t climb directly to super high altitudes after takeoff (use the step climb method, start at maybe FL320, then climb FL340 after a couple hours, and so on)
- Use a simulator flight plan service (ex. SimBrief, IF Flightplan tools) to get an exact fuel estimate, flight plan, and even step climb data.
Yeah, I already stopped cause I didn’t have enough fuel. But I’ll use this on my next long haul, I appperciate it man it means alot!
Why’d u give up for😭
My Advice: Taxi on just one engine instead of two, ESPECIALLY if you’re at a large airport with many confusing/long taxiways. Just make sure you don’t let the torque from the single operating engine veer you off the taxiway!
The way this works: If you are using the No.2 engine to taxi, then the torque from that engine will push the plane to the left, causing you to veer off the taxiway/runway. Apply RIGHT RUDDER to continue moving in a straight Direction.
I think that’s all!
I didn’t have enough fuel for the trip, so I just gave up on the whole thing 😭
I did actually, I started my second engine when I got closer to the runway I was taking off on whcih was runway 4L, my aircraft just burned hella fuel on climb though which I dont know why.
Js stop over in LA😭
Usually if the traffic is pretty heavy I’ll taxi with one engine, in-flight I just make sure that my trim is set properly at flight level and usually I’ll have excess fuel at the destination, if not then I just stop at an airport halfway to re-fuel. Simbrief also tends to help a lot. :)
well its too late lol
Strange. Might wanna choose a terminal or gate closer to the runways? Idk what else to recommend.
I think I messed up on my departure, It’s alright though things happen. You live and learn
