Need help for current/updated books for PPL

Hello! 👋 First of all, I know that this topic belongs under the “Real World Aviation” category but unfortunately the option to add topic is greyed out for me.😅

Alright, so my sibling is about to begin his PPL journey and would need to start reading textbooks. During my PPL journey 3 years ago (2021), I used POOLEY’s "Air Pilot’s Manual (1-7)" to prepare for the PPL exams but I am unsure if I should pass down my books to him. By any chance are those books outdated now for the PPL exam? Are there better options out there that have more up-to-date content?

Sure you could pass it down, it doesnt hurt.

For PPL, I would recommend:

  1. Pilots Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge*
  2. Airplane Flying Handbook*
  3. FAR/AIM*
  4. Visualized Flight Maneuvers Handbook
  5. Private Pilot Oral Exam Guide
  6. Purchase an online ground school course from a reputable brand, like ASA, Sportys… etc
  7. Private Pilot ACS*

Get up to date books because some regulations have changed (for example registration cert now valid for 7 years not 3 years). I almost exclusively used ASA’s Private Pilot Oral Exam Guide, and it was a huge help.

Even for the written?

Pilots handbook of aeronautical knowledge is the best book out there.

Gotcha, thank you! will definitely let him know about it🙌

Thanks for the update on the regulations—I’ll definitely look into getting the latest resources like the one you mentioned :)

Gotcha, Thanks for the tip!

For the written I used King Schools free practice exams. Some of the questions were literally the same with the same numbers as my written exam.

For me it’s all maintenance manuals and overhaul manuals as I want to become a mechanic. But for pilots handbook and manuals I’m not familiar with that department
