Hi everyone, I hope you have a nice day. I am 14 yo and beginning my SPL(Sailplane Pilot licence) and thought that this could be interesting for some people. I am gonna post everything on my way to the SPL in this thread. I hope this is interesting or useful for some people. Feel free to ask me questions
Hi, I am right now at the Ophthalmologist and waiting. I already did some tests but I need to wait now. I will post again when it’s over
Hi, im glad to see you getting your sailplane license. I also hope to get one soon, but there aren’t many possibilities in Thuringia. Best of luck ![]()

Hi my vision came back earlier than the doctor said. I looked in Google and I did found some some Sailplane schools in Thüringen. To be honest you don’t need to go to a specific flight school. I am going to a sailplane club that is permitted to educate people for the SPL. Like this you will safe a lot lot lot of money.
Ich bin zufällig auch deutsch, mein Name sagt vielleicht was anderes. Lebe in Hessen ![]()
I can now see way better. I am back from the Doctor. The whole thing took me like 4 hours.
Test 1: I looked into a machine and it did it thing by itself
Test 2: I had to look from an opening on a white curved wall(I don’t know the correct word) and focus on a green dot in the middle. While focusing there were other green dotes coming from the outside more and more in the middle, as soon as I saw them I had to press a button.
Test 3: the test was about seeing in the dark. I had to look into a box and there was a circle with a short line coming out of it. The circle was very hard to see. I had to tell where the circle points.
Test 4: I had to recognise from like 10m away on what side the circles had a opening and they became smaller. When I wasn’t able to see them she gave me glasses. Then she told me I can see on the left eye 60% and right 70% and I would need glasses to fly![]()
Test5: I had to read a text that she holds closer and then further away
Test 6: I had to read a text and pull it so close until I couldn’t read it anymore
Test 7: Before I could make the last test they gave me eye drops that made my pupils extreme wide (this was the reason why I saw everything blurred). I had to look again into the machine like the first time and it did everything by itself
This was every test I had to do. The whole thing cost 100€![]()
The final Bodycheck will be next week.
Quick update,
Today I were at the doctor so he could checky whole body and I finally get my medical, I got the medical but. Last year I had some major health issues and now he wants the documents of the doctors past than were I went because my health issues and this could take some days. The doctor now said I will get my medical 100% but he needs first the documents. The baddest that could happen is that I will have to make a Bodycheck every 2 years instead of 5. But yeah, since I finished that part I can finally join the Sailplane club to begin![]()
In the US the only medical requisite to fly a sailplane is to have a pulse and a doctors signature. No joke. I wish you well on your journey!
Bro what, in Germany they controll everything, blood, urin, heart, IKG, ears. I know someone that is not allowed to fly because they found that he had diabetes.
Anyway, thank you
