Ladies and gentlemen I present to you the most outrageous setup for flight simulation! Does it work? Yes. Is it pretty? Absolutely not. Currently, I do not have a PC, if that was the case this would be a completely different story. I’m currently a PPL student and my checkride is scheduled for November 7th. I’ve had Infinite Flight since 2017 and have played on and off thru the years, and I believe there is some real practice that can be accomplished on the app. It’s great for doing flows and emergencies scenarios to get the memory items up to par by simulating checklists.
Right now, I just finished a navlog (took 2 hours, I’m sure every student feels my pain ;) ) and plan on simulating what my checkride would roughly be like.
The Setup
CH Pro Yoke (Found these at goodwill for $25 what a steal)
CH Pro Rudder Pedals
MacBook 13 inch (For Map Connect)
iPad Mini 6 (What I use IRL for Foreflight)
IPad Air (For IF)
Now, unfortunately I haven’t really found a way to get Infinite Flight mirrored to my monitor without noticeable delay, so I haven’t connected them together. If anyone has any suggestions on this please let me know!
Anyways, thought it would be cool to share, and I’m curious if anybody else has done this for there checkride before. G’Day!
I haven’t, planning on picking one up later today. I bought an adapter to use the flight controls on the MacBook and didn’t think about the iPad itself 😪
I actually have my old monitor in the closet but there’s no room on my desk and im planning on moving to go to an accelerated flight school so this setup is somewhat temporary
Noice! I remember last year when I was working on my instrument rating, I used Infinite Flight as an excuse to practice reading approach charts and flying them in Infinite Flight. One thing I will say is Infinite Flight isn’t an approved sim by the FAA for flight training so don’t log any time on it lol. I also recommend getting with your instructor if you have any questions regarding flight procedures, but I assume you already know that. Good luck on your checkride though! I just completed my commercial checkride a couple days ago
Congrats! Yeah I don’t plan on putting it in my logbook it’s already a mess as it is lol. I’ve been on and off flight training for a couple years, and my final prog check oral was flawless other than some minor stuff. The flight portion wasn’t great but I was a little rusty since they took a month to schedule the actual prog 🙄. I cleaned up on the next flight but just wanna make sure I’ve got those memory items locked in. After the checkride I plan on taking the IR and CFII written before I go to the next school so I don’t have to worry about it later. flying vfr on IF was better than I expected, I think at least 3,500 feet is minimum to roughly see your checkpoints tho.
