More than one controller per airport

Heyo.

I was just wondering why there can’t be a controller doing ground and another doing tower on Expert? At very busy airports, I feel so bad for just one controller having to deal with so many calls at a time. Especially calls from pilots not understanding the process and procedures.

Anyways, hope to get some feedback :slightly_smiling_face:

A lot of the time, when it’s really busy, there will be different controllers controlling Ground and Tower. It’s ultimately the controller’s discretion over whether to split or not.

When a frequency get’s particularly busy, controllers can choose to split the airport with another controller. In the end, it’s up to the controller to decide

Ah I see. I’ve never seen it split before. Nothing wrong with someone doing it alone. I just feel bad for them sometimes.

Check who’s controlling the next time you fly into a hub with like 200+ arrivals! There’ll most likely be controllers splitting Ground and Tower.

it generally always happens at large airports with a lot of arrivals, generally you see approach split as well. The other day there were 3 approach controllers and a center, and ground and tower split. Quite common
