Mobile Cockpit Camera Improvements: Per-Aircraft FOV & Head Tilt

TL;DR

Mobile cockpit camera needs finer control. Adding per-aircraft FOV and head tilt would improve realism and finally make Hardcore Aviator usable on mobile.

The Problems

The mobile cockpit camera is usable, but not flexible. Fine adjustments are hard, zoom resets on double-tap, and there’s no head tilt—making cockpit-only and Hardcore Aviator flying unnecessarily difficult on phones.

The Proposed Changes

Settings Menu Integration

Alternative concept placing cockpit camera controls inside Settings Camera. Cleaner approach for persistent per-aircraft setup with reset option.

1. Per-Aircraft FOV Slider

  • Adjustable cockpit-only FOV

  • Saved per aircraft

  • Persists permanently (local storage; cloud optional)

Helps adapt to different cockpit sizes, seating positions, and phone screens.

2. Up/Down Head Tilt (Pitch)

  • Head rotation only (no camera height change)

  • Prevents HUD / FPV alignment issues

Allows natural viewing of runway, PFD, and MCP without dragging the camera.

3. Left/Right Head Tilt (Optional)

  • Roll tilt only, no position change

  • Optional, but useful for immersion and fine tuning

In-Cockpit Overlay Concept

Concept mockup showing cockpit camera adjustments as an in-flight overlay. Includes per-aircraft FOV slider and head tilt controls for quick fine-tuning without leaving the cockpit.

Why This Is Important

  • Mobile players struggle to get a clean, realistic cockpit view.

  • Hardcore Aviator mode on mobile is extremely limiting because live cockpit instruments are too small to read clearly.

  • FOV + Tilt would let users tune the camera to make instruments usable without external UI.

  • Current zoom and camera movement often distort perspective, making it harder to judge runway alignment and sightlines.

Summary

This would be a simple but impactful Quality of Life upgrade, especially for players who want a true cockpit-only experience on mobile.

A Little Staff Summary

Request:
Add per-aircraft cockpit camera controls on mobile:

  • Adjustable Field of View (FOV)

  • Up/Down head tilt (pitch)

  • Optional Left/Right head tilt (roll)

Scope:

  • Cockpit view only

  • Settings saved per aircraft (local storage)

Reason:
Current mobile camera lacks fine control. Zoom resets, X/Y movement is imprecise, and there’s no head tilt. This limits realism and makes Hardcore Aviator mode difficult because cockpit instruments are too small to read.

Benefit:
Improves usability, realism, and accessibility without affecting HUD logic or external cameras.

Yes, in my opinion, an internal camera setup is sorely lacking; I would really love it if that were available. Congratulations on the concept.

This is worth it 100%, as with my experience playing Aerofly FS, it is extremely helpful when looking outside (behind)

Voted! I’d just say to add an option to move the camera position up/down as well, in addition to the angle.

Voted! Need this one ASAP

Great visuals! This could be one of those simple yet significant changes :+1:t3:

To be very honest, that was actually my first idea too.

I initially wanted full camera position movement, but after thinking about it, I decided to stick with Rotation Only because vertical movement could mess with HUD / Flight Path Vector alignment when using it with Cockpit cam, and create more problems for the Devs.

Rotation gives most of the benefit without causing problems to the HUD and FPV, so it felt like the better option.

Smol Bump! : )

I’m gonna bump this, as being able to zoom in on instruments and actually have the camera stay there would let me finally get out of the HUD view for takeoff and landing. The instruments, even on my fairly large iphone 14 max, are just too small to see. Hoping this gets implemented soon
