MMGL opens up it’s new second runway

A couple of days ago (I guess lol), Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP) has opened up the second parallel runway at Guadalajara International Airport (MMGL). The new runway (29R/11L) is 11,608ft, and the main runway 29/11 now becomes 29L/11R. The opening of the second runway is just a part of an ongoing modernization by GAP to Guadalajara, with a new passenger terminal on the way.

Simultaneous departure and arrivals can be made, however, not for parallel deps/arrivals.

It is estimated that GDL will expand It’s capacity with the construction, with an estimation of 61 operations per hour once it gets completed, compared to the current 41 ops/hour or so, and the passenger capacity to be increased up to 40 million passengers per year. The project should be completed in 2026.

I didn’t find any news reporting about it yet, but here’s proof from FR24 lol.

And here is an article in Spanish that summarizes the project, once it was announced. Is from 2021, but still you may have an idea about it.

“Coming, when it’s ready”

Interesting topic for me as well. With the runway opening GDL is on target become a major HUB in Mexico, and to become a great alternative to an overloaded Mexico City Airport.

Guadalajara is currently looking for trans-pacific passenger flights, and seeing comments from an Aeromexico pilot, GDL may get Paris soon.

Great topic! We could’ve used this runway when the stream happened a few months back!

The thing is that the runway wasn’t finished yet IRL 😛

that would be cool

Indeed it would. If they get to start those, I’d definetly choose the airport over MEX.
