For those that feel they have practiced a lot of landings, any most common mistakes still happen now and then? Either those that surprised you or else you knew you could have avoided?
Floating is my number one mistake. It just gets better overtime really
I’d have to agree with that. Pretty much just floating for me, especially with heavier aircraft. I think they’ll drop once I flare but I’m still going too fast. It’s take practice and a whole lotta patience
Forgetting to pull your power back and end up coming in hot, forgetting to arm spoilers/auto brakes.
Lining up with centerline, the landings are decent I just have to practice getting lined up
I also accidentally touch the screen near the max throttle without realizing.
I’m also not consistent with centreline control. I sometimes wonder if I need a faster device for better fps for better control fine tuning.
Upon landing the A321, I always get a serious ground effect, which transitions into a hard landing. I guess it’s just me not retarding the throttles in time for a smooth touchdown. But as they say: “A good pilot is always learning!”
Determing crosswinds I can never really tell until the plane goes sideways after landing, I think it just something that you can feel IRL and I can’t feel that in a sim.
Do you check the wind arrow on the HUD screen?
Loss of directional control on nose wheel touching down because of incorrect rudder inputs
Nose wheel breaking the runway as I bring it down
I’ve done so many crosswind landings but sometimes I decrab too early and float. Or sometimes I just don’t pay attention to my GPWS callouts (for some reason) and end up slamming it.
757 for example T_T
I can’t do crosswind landings in the 757 without doing that.
I just tried a bunch of 757 x-wind landings in solo. Do you find it’s like the legacy fighters - need practice warm ups before finding the right touch?
The 757 is pretty much the sports car of commercial aircraft. The controls (especially the rudder) are incredibly sensitive.
I don’t think I’ve seen people mention keeping the eyeballs fixed on the landing spot when giving power and control adjustments. A 767 pilot who survived a deadstrick landing I remember saying he didn’t take his eyeballs off the runway numbers. I wonder if that makes it easier to avoid over controlling. Like the way keeping your eye on the ball seems to improve catching coordination.
Im curious if that makes the difference, I have a smasung galaxy from 2020 and my fps run good unless I get a temporary lapse in connection. Ive landed in cockpit view and outside view and I think I have it and when I get within a mile of the threshold Im too far left or right and have to adjust and the nav keeps me on centerline sometimes but the gps is always reliable for me
Yea, im much better now but it was a problem I had early on.
We’ll, apparently some aircraft have ground effect and some don’t 🤷‍♂️ I’ve noticed the 717 is impossible to land even after playing awhile with other aircraft
