Minimum Fuel Callout

So I learned something new today. You can callout minimum fuel levels.

I was taking off out of Sydney and heading to Edmonton when another plane (Callsign: Delta 36 Heavy) had called that they are left downwind Runway 07 when a minute later they call out “Delta 36 Heavy, Minimum Fuel, 2 minutes remaining” while trying to line up for final. But then they finally ran out and stalled and crashed. 6 NM from the runway. Kinda sad to see them trying to get to the airport but sadly they never made it.

I didn’t know you could do that.

Call out minimum fuel loads.

My question is when does that the low fuel call out option appear?

Hello!

The low fuel/fuel emergency option should appear on your menu if you have been flying for more than an hour and have less than 30 minutes of fuel remaining, I believe.

If you happen to be in an active airspace/ATC frequency while you have such an emergency, you can announce it, but the controller, depending on various factors including the traffic levels, could tell you to divert :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I think people fuel low on purpose especially in busy airspace thinking they will get preferential treatment lol you see them log off when controller sees that its a really short flight so theres no reason to be low on fuel besides they purposely made it that way and tells them to deviate to the nearest airport available lol BTW IM NOT IFATC

Hm, I honestly doubt that. I’m not saying there aren’t people who might’ve done that, but I highly believe most of the low fuel cases are poor or wrong fuel management judgment. Considering this often happens in a busy airspace, that tells me people did not plan or think properly about the traffic levels, which often means holds, long vectors, or Go Arounds, all things which will make you lose more fuel than you thought.

Also, if you are low on fuel, you’re never certain about receiving “preferential treatment” (so, a faster one). If you’re at the hub, you’re more likely to be told to divert = not receive any ATC service and land at another airport, haha.

Low fuel warning automatically tells to the controller if you are below 30 mins I believe you don’t have a specific controls to say. And if the ATC is active they will put you first. If the airspace is very busy they will tell you to divert to the nearest.

Last time during an event Simbrief gave me 30 minutes fuel to a 2 hour 40 mins ride… had to decide an emergency landing, re-do flightplan with Simbrief again and refueled. Now I know that against a computer there’s a high chance I was the one at fault here, tho I still couldn’t figure out why, but yeah you’re right this could happen even if you’ve been really thoughtful when flight planning.
