Military Special Movements in Fall Light | Ingolstadt, November 18, 2020

Hey everybody!

After another month, I finally had the chance to do a proper spotting trip which deserves the name - Munich is just to dead and I could only show the same planes over and over again. Therefore, I went up to Ingolstadt last Wednesday to do some military spotting with a few special movements.

One of the two main reasons for more than 50 spotters to come to Ingolstadt was the first flight of a German Navy P-3C after a long maintenance at the airport.

After performing an engine runup on the opposite end of the runway, it taxied down to the runway end, turned around and started a four hour test flight.

The second special were two Spanish F18 jets performing training flights from Ingolstadt for one week to test the Taurus weapon system.

Besides the one-seater who was carrying the Taurus, a double seater also joined the test flight.

Not only the Spanish, but also the German Air Force performed some flights including two Eurofighters, one of them performing several low passes and touch and goes prior to landing.

Out of the sudden, two unexpected Panavia Tornados of the German Air Force also passed by in formation before returning for another overflight some minutes later.

To complete the military fleet of that day, let’s continue with two A400M of the German Air Force which arrived for quick 30 minute stops at the airport, this one in quite some nice autumn light.

For the departure of the other one, let’s add a bit of prop blur for special effects.

Just before departure of the A400, a slightly smaller visitor arrived back at the airport after a training flight - just a classic C172 in front of a military transporter.

Today’s topic not only features fixed wing aircraft though, but also some helicopters. One of them, privately owned, performed several patterns plus some arrivals and departures.

Some more helicopters were actually operated by Airbus Helicopters who use Ingolstadt as a testing site for their newly assembled helicopters, such as this H145 painted in the camouflage livery of the Air Force of Ecuador.

Further tests were conducted with an H135 built for the Royal Thai Air Force

After some 5 hours, I left Ingolstadt again, like this A400M, just not with such a nice silhouette.

Thanks for visiting this topic! I hope you liked it! See you for the next topic ;)

Apart from the name there isn’t a difference anyway 😉 unless we are really talking about the EC145/BK117 version

I found out some time ago the UH-72 was based on the EC-145, according to the folks I know that maintain and fly them. From what I understand the only large difference between the H and EC is the tail rotor.

Me: Sadly looks at the less than 1 flight per hour stats of his home airport… ;)

Also some really fantastic pictures, especially of the A400M and the helicopters. Learned quite something about airplanes today as I am not too familiar with military aviation apart from the big cargo planes like the A400M.
Great to have you back with a spotting topic here on the IFC!
