Military or Commercial Aviation Career Paths

So I’ve been really thinking about career paths, obviously leaning towards the aviation side of things. So I’m thinking to either try to go to the navy and become a pilot their or to become a commercial pilot. Does anyone have experience about one or both and if you have time and it isn’t an inconvenience please list just one or two pros or cons about your field and maybe what your opinion about it is.

Hey! This post should be in #real-world-aviation.

My bad, I’ll move it now!
Edit- When I try to move it to that section it won’t let me, I’m guessing I don’t have perms to post in that section so I’ll just delete

If you can’t move it then it’s because you aren’t TL2 yet.

Yea, I’m not there yet. So I just wait for an admin to close it

Here’s an explanation of trust levels. https://meta.discourse.org/t/what-do-user-trust-levels-do/4924

I’ve read that before but I’ll for it another read. So if I just leave post here(because I’m new and don’t know how to delete posts) and wait for an adm to close it or what. Sorry if I’m annoying you, just new to the community

That’s okay! Welcome to the IFC. The mods will close this.

Military has its benifits, great career, great benifits, it does have it downside. You’re there for how long your contract is (unless you’re kicked out or injured), you might be gone from your family from a long time, it’s a good path I miss it a ton!
Flying is extremely strict, you gotta be prrect with some wiggle rooms.

Commercial you pay unless you can get scholarships and you’re not contracted for part of your life you can do it all on your own.

Adding on to what Mark said, from flying in the military it is easier to get a job for commercial companies. A lot of retired military pilots go on to fly as a commercial pilot.

Thanks for responding, both you and mark!

This is a rare occasion that we move things over without the trust level to back it but I believe many of our community members could benefit from our dynmaic group of real world pilots and military folks.

Cheers,

Question - What type of airframe are you wanting to fly?

I want to fly an A-10. Or an A350. For this the most logical way to try to achieve this is to enter the military and become a commercial pilot after.

If you wanna fly the A-10 that’s Air Force (Unless by the time you join it’s Army)
My boss use to fly the A-10.
Stay in school, get good grades, stay in physical shape, don’t do stupid things to get you in trouble.

Sorry, was flying in IF. I’m hoping for jets but could settle for helicopters. I’d enjoy jets because…Jets. And I like the fact how helicopters can be used in so many ways and go where most can’t. I’d enjoy flying anything really.

If you wanna fly real fun stuff - Army Warrant is the way to go. Jets and stuff go Airforce/Navy/Marines
