Brilliant Barbados Flyout
Welcome to Barbados!
Barbados is a dazzling Caribbean island where rich history, vibrant culture, and natural beauty meet to create a uniquely stunning island. Barbados is well known for its beautiful beaches and luxury resorts, but the small British Commonwealth is an economic powerhouse, as the largest economy in the Eastern Caribbean, and a popular spot for banking. One of the country’s claims to fame is that it produced one of the world’s biggest pop music sensations - Rihanna. The billionaire businesswoman and best-selling female recording artist of the 21st century was born and raised in Saint Michael, Barbados. She credits the reggae and soca music of her childhood (both of which are native to the area) as major influences in her modern day artistry. Some of her best known hits include Only Girl (In the World), Diamonds, What’s My Name?, and Run This Town, and her music was streamed over 10 billion times on YouTube and Spotify alone in 2023.
Barbados’s history is deeply intertwined with its diverse populus. The Nidhe Israel Synagogue, the oldest Synagogue in the Americas, is on the island. The entire capital city, Bridgetown, is a UNESCO World Heritage site, mainly because of its stunningly preserved 17th, 18th and 19th century British colonial architecture.
Grantley Adams International Airport
Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI) is the primary gateway to Barbados and the island’s main international hub. Located on the southern coast in the parish of Christ Church near the town of Seawell, the airport is named after Grantley Herbert Adams—a pioneering statesman who served as Barbados’ first Prime Minister. Originally inaugurated in the mid‑1960s, the airport has undergone several expansions and modernizations over the decades to meet the growing demand for air travel to this Caribbean destination.
Today, Grantley Adams International Airport stands as one of the busiest air travel hubs in the Eastern Caribbean. It handles millions of passengers annually and offers connectivity to major cities in North America and Europe. To the east of the Grantley Adams Airport Terminal is the old Spencers Plantation, part of the new expanded airport grounds and site of the British Airways Concorde Museum. G-BOAE, one of BA’s Concordes, is on display. G-BOAE was the same airframe Queen Elizabeth II took on her first trip to Barbados, in 1977.
