Incident: United B752 at Chicago on Jun 10th 2017, an engine and a balloon

A United Boeing 757-200, registration N14107 performing flight UA-66 from Chicago O’Hare,IL (USA) to Shannon (Ireland) with 156 people on board, was in the initial climb out of Chicago’s runway 28R when the crew, still on tower frequency, reported an engine (RB211) had ingested a balloon, they needed to return to Chicago adding, they needed to return not immediately, they were talking to company. The crew advised they had all normal indications but still were returning to Chicago. The aircraft landed safely on runway 28R about 50 minutes after departure.

The flight was postponed to the following day, however, the aircraft was still not ready for departure. The occurrence aircraft was finally able to depart for the flight in the early morning of Jun 12th with a delay of 31 hours and reached Shannon with a delay of 30.5 hours.

There’s an awful lot of engine shutdowns especially with the 787 family of birds.

That would have been cool to experience

Wow. I keep seeing the same cause(s) for these b6 incidents, strong odors in the cabin on departure. Odd.

Incident: Westjet Encore DH8D at Toronto on May 11th 2017, don’t need fuel THAT urgently
By Simon Hradecky, created Thursday, Jun 15th 2017 19:21Z, last updated Thursday, Jun 15th 2017 19:21Z
A Westjet Encore de Havilland Dash 8-400, registration C-FQWE performing flight WS-3459 from Ottawa,ON to Toronto,ON (Canada), was on final approach to Toronto’s runway 15R about 1nm before touchdown when tower cancelled the landing clearance and issued go around instructions reporting a vehicle on the runway. The crew initiated a go around, positioned for another approach and landed safely about 11 minutes later.

The Canadian TSB reported the vehicle was a tanker truck involved with construction operations on runway 05/23. NAV Canada reported the truck was not in contact with ground control and had no clearance to cross the runway.

Thanks for sharing information. That was way different from what I expected, was expecting a fight between pilot and ATC about fuel remaining after a lengthy hold in air or something else close to that.

No it really wouldn’t. Why would you want to be on a plane with an engine that had ingested an object?

I was thinking the same…

Westjet 3459, declaring fuel emergency… only 45 mins left

ATC: You’re 15 mins away… don’t need fuel THAT urgently :)

That’s exactly what I had imagined. TS moment in real life, lol.

Full report? Doesn’t sound good.

Wow, that is certainly interesting.
