- Video of a powerbank thermal runaway on board of a landed aircraft in Volgograd
By Simon Hradecky, created Thursday, Feb 1st 2018 22:40Z, last updated Thursday, Feb 1st 2018 22:40Z
An Aeroflot Airbus A320-200, registration VQ-BPU performing flight SU-1182 from Moscow Sheremtyevo to Volgograd (Russia) with 150 passengers and 7 crew, had safely landed in Volgograd and had taxied to the apron. While waiting for the disembarkation of passengers a passenger’s powerbank suffered a thermal runaway and caught fire. Surrounding passengers poured bottles of water over the device temporarily extinguishing the flames, the thermal runaway however continued, the device re-ignited. Cabin crew finally reached the device, passengers and cabin crew poured additional water over the device, fire extinguishers were discharged and the device was put into a secure container.

- Incident: Pobeda B738 at Istanbul on Feb 2nd 2018, incorrect missed approach causes loss of separation
By Simon Hradecky, created Saturday, Feb 3rd 2018 22:30Z, last updated Saturday, Feb 3rd 2018 22:33Z
A Pobeda Boeing 737-800, registration VQ-BTH performing flight DP-837 from Moscow Vnukovo (Russia) to Istanbul (Turkey), was on final approach to Istanbul’s runway 23 when the crew decided to go around from low height but did not turn left immediately as instructed by the missed approach procedure and continued straight ahead.
A Pegasus Boeing 737-800 registration TC-IZE performing flight PC-3303 from Istanbul to Izmir (Turkey), departed Istanbul’s runway 17R and was in the initial climb through about 700 feet AGL when the Pobeda 737 crossed their flight path twice turning onto the missed approach.
The Pegasus Boeing stopped the climb at about 1000 feet thus remaining below the Pobeda.
After being clear of conflict the Pobeda joined the correct missed approach procedure, positioned for another approach and landed safely on runway 23 about 21 minutes later. The Pegasus continued the climb and landed safely in Izmir.
Turkey’s Civil Aviation Authority reported the separation between the two aircraft reduced to 700 feet vertical with about 250 meters/0.13nm horizontal separation. An investigation has been opened into the occurrence rated a serious incident. END
3.Incident: Sprint SF34 at Wroclaw on Jan 26th 2018, rejected takeoff due to premature rotation
By Simon Hradecky, created Saturday, Jan 27th 2018 20:13Z, last updated Saturday, Jan 27th 2018 20:13Z
A Sprintair Saab 340A, registration SP-KPR performing charter freight flight P8-50 from Wroclaw to Goleniow (Poland), taxied for departure from Wroclaw’s runway 11 via taxiways B and C, lined up runway 11 and after receiving takeoff clearance commenced the takeoff roll. The nose gear lifted off the ground prematurely prompting the crew to reject takeoff at high speed. The nose gear contacted the runway surface again and the aircraft slowed without further incident vacating the runway at the end of the runway.
A ground observer reported the aircraft looked quite tail heavy already when it taxied out. The acceleration of the aircraft during the takeoff run was very low, the aircraft began to rotate well below usual rotation speed, the crew rejected takeoff. The crew advised tower of a minimal technical problem, when tower inquired again about the reason for the rejected takeoff indicating they needed to submit a report, the crew advised they had a cargo shift. After unloading the cargo and re-loading the cargo the aircraft was able to depart later. END
