The thing is, why wasn’t she looking where she was going? What was she doing there? These are important to understand the real issue here

Just WHY WHY did they both get out of the plane with the prop moving?? I will never understand decisions like this.

MattWarnz: This is why you yell “CLEAR PROP!” before you start the prop.

Second, they say mistakes can cost you can arm and a leg. Is this case it was literal.

MaxSez: Latest…

The gruesome scene played out around 8:45 p.m. Saturday when the pilot tried to taxi the rented single-propeller Cessna 172S along Key West International Airport only to find it wouldn’t budge, the Miami Herald reported.

Leaving the plane running, the pilot, identified by the paper as Walter Gray, got out to look for the issue, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Though Gray told her to stay in the plane, Rebecca Lynn Gray, 45, also got out and moved to help free one of the plane’s wheels from a chock, Zaaaap!

Walter, what have you done this time?

And this is why I was always scared when I was near a fast moving fan or propeller, on anything shaped like propellers moving fast

You always have to visually check and tell it out when you start up. I hear deer does it well.

But never approach areas around the engine while it’s running. And never leave a plane engine running when you leave the plane. I’ve seen those videos where the plane goes and crashes when someone isn’t in the plane.

@TransportForLife Boo!

Second, this is why they teach you how to be safe in flight school. Why are people so dumb sometimes?

I agree, I feel bad for people who get surprise amputations like this. But it also makes me face palm for the stupidity of the person. The prop is running, a dangerous spiny thing that breaks the speed of sound a few times every second. No joke, it makes a mini supersonic boom. That thing can slice through flesh like a 3rd grader through their crappy school lunch spaghetti. @Levet

People genuinely make mistakes in life. Whether they’re stupid or not, this can anyone happen to anyone.
