Massive JFK gusts

Just attempted to fly into JFK from MUC but got thrown off by massive gusts on late final to 31L. And crashed. On Expert. In an A380. :see_no_evil_monkey::see_no_evil_monkey::see_no_evil_monkey: I was fairly heavy on approach (391t) just within MLW. But I have landed the A380 in cross wind etc many many times. What happened…???

You might have had a tail or wing strike, or landed so extremely hard you crashed.

Maybe you forgot to put your landing gear down

Same thing happened to me I was flying 73 max and had approach mode on till short final and when I took control at 300 I lost so much sped and landed on the numbers

I flew into JFK this afternoon, can confirm this is how it was IRL. We had +/-15 kts on short final. Definitely got the adrenaline going!

Got that ā€œout of the blueā€ Nor’easter storm out here in the east coast currently

Well when you have hefty gusts crossing you, it’s so much more stable to disconnect the AP and hand fly it rather than the AP struggle to keep it on track.

Or at least take control earlier than 300ft. Sounds like you had a hard wind shear & you weren’t ready for it & had no time/approach left to fix it

I’m also pretty sure Auto-land isn’t recommended for these approaches
