Mandatory FAA review of US airline seat sizes

I disagree with the backstory to this case. If people are going to blame small airline seats for the health conditions, then they should have done more research before flying.

I can’t say for customers, but I wouldn’t mind paying couple of extra tens of dollar to have the slightly bigger seat. Customers really only have two choices with U.S. Airlines right now: suffer the pain on economy seats or be brankrupt on business seats.

Legroom is horrible, but not bad enough for me to throw couple of hundreds to get on business seat for 4-5 hrs flight from a coast to other coast. Long intercontinental flight is different story through.

I believe the article mentioned that the tight space isn’t only a hazard to the health, but also to the safety of passengers. It said that the space is too tight and could be obstacle for passengers to get out of seats during emergency situation.

Getting out of the seat isn’t really easy even if the plane is on the ground. We have to scoot across the row in economy class. Passengers in the business class or first class wouldn’t need to scoot, they could just stand up and walk out.

Airlines are still shrinking the space between seat, right now they are trying to make the seat thinner. They are forgetting (not caring more like) that seat is thicker at the edge for the frame which has to handle high g forces in case if plane crashes. This is what make it hard to get out of seat because edges of seat has less space than middle. Its what I have observed from my flights in last couple of years.
