Managing KMSP

Hello. This is my second article on my “Managing American Airports” series. My first one got a lot of love so I’m doing another one.

This one is Minneapolis St. Paul International Airport.

Weird facts:

  • Delta Airlines accounts for over 83% of all passengers traveling through KMSP
  • KMSP is a major hub for two airlines
  • KMSP has been nominated consistently for best North American airport of the year
  • KMSP long haul flights include PHNL , PANC , RJTT , EGLL , EHAM , LFPG , BIKF

Parking / Gates
Concourse A , B , C , D

  • Delta Airlines
    Concourse E
  • American Airlines
  • United Airlines
  • Spirit Airlines
  • Frontier Airlines
  • Alaska Airlines
    Concourse F
  • Delta Airlines
    Concourse G
  • Delta Airlines
  • KLM
  • Air France
  • Air Canada
    Concourse H
  • Southwest Airlines
  • Sun Country Ailrines ( not in IF )
  • jetBlue Airways
  • Icelandair

Cargo terminal is north of runway 4/22

About departures:

  • Departure runways 17/35 , 12R/30L , 12L/30R
  • For departing runway 17/35 , departures are always from the runway 17 side, facing south. Departures from 17 are always to the south
  • For departing runways 12R/30L and 12L/30R , takeoff is straight out usually. Only north, east or west directions from these runways.
  • Regular takeoff VS from all three runways is about +2000
  • Heavy aircraft only takeoff from 12R/30L

About landings:

  • Landing runways 17/35 , 12R/30L , 12L/30R
  • For landing runway 17/35 , only land on the 35 side , facing north
  • For landing runways 12R/30L and 12L/30R , enter straight in. Heavy arrivals must use runway 12R/30L

Other things to know about:

  • Traffic on the ground is pretty spread out. The greatest traffic would be in between Concourse E and F
  • Expect a lot of runway crossings
  • Taxiway instructions are usually normal, just taxi straight to your runway

If you want me to do another one, please vote from the options below.

  • KDEN
  • KEWR
  • KLAS
  • KSFO
  • KATL

Thank you.

Very nice post! I love this series you have set up :) You should do KDEN next!

Great topic! One day I hope to fly on Icelandair to MSP…

After proof-reading this I give it the “This is correct because I live in MN” stamp. Nice work :)

As I like to call MSP… “undecided.” They can never choose what runway they really want to use for departure. They stopped 12L deps while I was there and had people taxi to 17 instead and funneled parallels on the 12s. It’s constantly changing.

Denver! KDEN all the way bois!

Wow never knew MSP was voted consistently for best Mercian airport .Ive been there many times, and it indeed is a really good airport.I still like DTW better tho.

U r inspiring me to do these airport info stuff.
Do KDEN,love to see that

In fact can I borrow ur idea of doing these ,I like reaserching airports

I would love to continue this series on European airports I know well…it is a great idea, keep it up!

yeah go ahead bud. lets just stay in contact so we dont do the same airport twice

If you could do Denver that would be great! I spend a lot of time around there so I could help out if you need it.

(Cough…Delta Acquired 83% at KMSP…cough…from NWA…cough)

KDEN thread is out now Managing KDEN - #2 by MrMrMan

Let me guess:

Delta and Sun Country are the 2 Airlines that have Hubs at KMSP.

great topic! Bookmarking this for future reference.

👍yooo Thanks ,Definately will PM
Seems like something I’d enjoy reaserching
