What about EMA early-evening? Lots of older cargo planes come in. Maybe for next summer?

Manchester is pretty hard to beat for up close action in the UK. Always pleasant times with the fellow spotters to - great crowd.

You are lucky, my closest big airport is Gatwick and the spotting opportunities are awful compared to MAN. Grrrr.

I remember seeing plane spotters just outside the gate at RAF Mildenhall fairly regularly when we would stop in.

Edit: just outside the fence.

I would love to go spotting but the nearest airport to me is a very small one with about 5 flights a day which is a flybe q400 so the nearest decent airport to me
Is Bristol which is 2 hours away
