Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, and weak men create hard times.
– Michael Hopf
There is nothing more analogous to Malaysia Airlines than that famous quote by Michael Hopf, and while it’d be ignorant to deny that Malaysia Airlines is in a bad position, we can only celebrate on their brighter days from bygone times, and build on the success they once celebrated.
While we hope that Malaysia Airlines returns to the heights they once soared at, this Simulator allows us to attempt to bring them higher than they’ve ever been before. That said, join us, as we aim to create choices, choices that makes you wonder what could have been, and see for yourself that your choices will make a change.
No longer bounded by borders, Malaysia Airlines Virtual wishes to take you to places you’ve never seen before, as you step outside your comfort zone, and let us be a part of your journey, as you explore the wider world with us.
I promise there’s more than meets the eye.

History of Malaysia Airlines
Formed after the splitting of Malaysia-Singapore Airlines, Malaysia Airlines was the true flag of Malaysia. More than just a flag carrier, the airline was its way of inviting the world to Malaysia, with non-stop flights to the largest, most prestigious destinations in the world.
From its formation in 1972, Malaysia Airlines was determined to develop its fleet from a fleet of Boeing 707 and Boeing 737, allowing a rapid and aggressive expansion, both in the regional market and the long-haul market.
The arrival of their Douglas DC-10-30 meant that there was the ability to reach destinations far away such as Amsterdam, Paris and Frankfurt, as well as a period of rapid expansion between 1980 and 1990, where Malaysia Airlines explored some other more unique and exotic destinations such as Honolulu, Buenos Aires and Mexico City, then being the only Asian airline to fly to South America.
1990 arrived, and with it brought the arrival of modern jets. The Boeing 737-400, Boeing 747-400, Boeing 777-200ER and Airbus A330-300 were integral to the Malaysia Airlines fleet, were the signs of an even more aggressive and rapid expansion, with long haul destinations with a smaller market such as Vienna, Zagreb, Zurich and Madrid being experimented with. While some succeeded, others failed, an unfortunate precedent as the airline continued into the Millennium.
Following the new millennium, Malaysia Airlines struggled as a result of the Asian Financial Crisis, a trend we see to this day. Consolidation and efforts to minimise losses ended with the retirement of a large part of their fleet, as well as a shift to a smaller, more sustainable business model.
Malaysia Airlines Virtual’s staff are selected through a thorough and rigorous process, with only the most dedicated pilots invited to serve as a member of staff at Malaysia Airlines Virtual.

Malaysia Airlines Virtual aims to bring the best of all eras in the history of Malaysia Airlines, as well as an exclusive partnership with Singapore Virtual Airlines, we’ve been able to re-create past destinations through the use of the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 and Douglas DC-10-30, as well as the Infinite Flight Livery B757-200 in lieu of the missing Boeing 707-320B.
Moving through the eras, the rapid expansion brought on plans to launch non-stop flights to North, Central and South America, with business travel in mind, though the Asian Financial Crisis ended all opportunities before it could have materialised.
Fast forward to today, and Malaysia Airlines is really just a shadow of what it once was. That said, we aim to change that notion, to bring Malaysia Airlines to where it could have been, with the use of our flagship aircraft fleet, such as the Boeing 747-400, Boeing 777-200ER, Airbus A350-900 and the almighty Airbus A380-800.
Malaysia Airlines has had the luck to have been heavily featured in Infinite Flight, with various liveries from different eras of the airline featured, most of which being the flagship of the airline. Aircraft with Malaysia Airlines liveries include:
- Boeing 737-800
- Boeing 747-400
- Boeing 777-200ER
- Airbus A350-900
- Airbus A380-800
- McDonnell Douglas MD-11
Alongside this, Malaysia Airlines Virtual and Singapore Airlines Virtual has agreed to make use of the Boeing 757-200 with the Infinite Flight livery, in lieu of the missing Boeing 707 livery, to be used on routes operated by Malaysia-Singapore Airlines.
A big part of our organisation is built on community engagement, and events are the best way to do this.
Internal events are often hosted, featuring favourite destinations in our route database. From Borneo islands to the Swiss Alps, the Indian Subcontinent to the Amazon Rainforest, we have a wide selection of routes, as we aim to bring you on board our events, sometime in the near future.
We also aim to host events with partnering organisations, oftentimes, exploring the best that they have to offer. That said, for those who are interested in a more elaborate event system have it all to enjoy. As a member of the OneWorld Virtual Alliance, we aim to host joint events with various other OneWorld member organisations such as British Airways Virtual Airline, Finnair Virtual and Qantas Virtual Group.
As was mentioned above, OneWorld Virtual Alliance is comprised of:
- Malaysia Airlines Virtual
- Alaska Airlines Virtual
- Finnair Virtual
- British Airways Virtual Airline
- Qantas Virtual Group
- Qatar Airways Virtual
Joint events are often held between the hubs of each of the member airlines, and as we aim to bring the world closer, we also aim to grow the Virtual Airline scene on the Infinite Flight Community.
If it wasn’t for our partners, we would be nowhere near where we’re at. As such, we’d like to thank each of our partners for taking their time to negotiate routes, create events and host joint events.
Our destinations run far and wide, from regional destinations less than 20 minutes away by flight, to flights that are well over 20 hours away non-stop, we aim to give all pilots the option to fly to almost wherever they wish to, at any time.
And to give back to our pilots, we have a program for our most loyal pilots, having a direct say in the routes they wish to fly to, from any of hubs to any airport they wish to fly to.
Check out our route database, and do consider joining, if this is something that interests you.
No organisation is complete without acknowledging the seniority of our most dedicated pilots, giving them the opportunity to be the first to fly on new routes, new programmes, priority at our events, and most importantly, thanking them for carrying our name so far and high.
Our rank is detailed in the table below, with a more detailed table available using the link below.
