Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAB) Academy Tour Report
As a fellow aviation fan, I want to share something with you guys. Recently I was lucky enough to be invited to the brand-new MAB Academy Simulator Building in KLIA Sepang for an exclusive Facebook group fan tour. As a Malaysia Airlines fan and Aviation Enthusiast, stepping past those lobby doors felt less like a tour and more like stepping behind the curtain of the Malaysia national carrier’s nerve center.
The morning started in the main lobby, where we were warmly greeted by MAB teams. Right away, the room was filled with laughter and excitement as fans from different Facebook groups broke the ice over fresh juices, breakfast bites, and of course, the iconic MH signature salted peanuts (kacang masin). You could immediately feel that signature Malaysian Hospitality warming up the room.

Our first stop was a walk through history. Standing in front of the massive timeline walls, we walked through the evolution from MAL to MAS. Passing the Wings of Style display showing off decades of flight crew team uniforms.

Next, we had a small yet meaningful opening ceremony before headed to the next session: Cabin Emergency Evacuation Trainer (CEET) mock-up where we going through the emergency commands inside the cabin and get to launch ourselves down the giant inflatable slide.
The Heavy Metal: Flying the Simulators!
This was the absolute climax of the day. Walking onto the high-gantry platforms inside the simulator bays, we stood face-to-face with multi-million dollar CAE full-flight simulators sitting on giant hydraulic motion legs. The highlight? We didn’t just look, we flew!
Stepping inside the cockpit deck of Southeast Asia’s first Airbus A330neo full-flight simulator was an absolute rush.
For our flight, we set up a specialized training profile: a departure and arrival right at home at KLIA (WMKK), programming Runway 32R under real-world Malaysian conditions—a warm 28∘C evening with wet runway conditions.
Getting your hand on the signature Airbus sidestick is a completely different feeling if you’re used to a traditional yoke. The moment we pushed the throttles forward for takeoff, the physical sensations of the motion simulator completely took over. When the nose rotated and the wheels left the ground, that “floating feeling” as the hydraulics tilted back to simulate gravity was so incredibly realistic it instantly hit my nerves!
Next, we switched over to the Boeing 737-800 simulator bay.
Stepping onto the flight deck, the contrast is immediately apparent to any AvGeek. The 737 cockpit still retains a classic, mechanical instrument style with overhead toggle switch panels that give it that true “heavy iron” pilot vibe. Instead of a side shelf, you are faced with a massive, traditional control yoke. The contrast was immediate, the mechanical yoke required real physical energy and muscle to steer compared to the fly-by-wire stick. The instructor also demonstrated Autoland sequence (I think CATIII autoland type, if not mistaken), watching the controls move on their own in pitch darkness to land flawlessly. (I cannot attach the video here, don’t know why).
After the flight decks, we get to experience few situations such as tackle live smoke and fire drills inside a glass-enclosed cabin trainer and emergency landing brace position and operating emergency door.
For lunch, we were treated to a premium, international sector Business Class-style multi-course service. While enjoying a gorgeous plate of authentic Laksa Johor, MH signature drink, and an incredibly delicious mushroom satay (which perfectly replicates the texture of their iconic chicken satay!), we were joined by Capt. Nasaruddin A. Bakar, the President and Group CEO of Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG). It was an absolute privilege for every MH fan in the room to personally greeted by him.
To conclude our experiential journey at MAB Academy, we transitioned into the mock-up bay for the final module of the day: Cabin Service Training. For anyone who appreciates the finer details of the passenger experience, this was pure gold.
We stepped right inside the simulated commercial cabin environment to experience mock-up Malaysia Airlines’ Business Class seats from Airbus A330neo and were treated to a demonstration of premium inflight service by the instructors. They walked us through the exact operational standard for premium dining setup, served a light meal arrangement, warm bread selections, a refreshing dessert bowl, mineral water, and premium juice pairings, all presented on pristine white linen trays.
We wrapped up an unforgettable day with a group photoshoot alongside the executive leadership, instructors, and teams who make the magic happen every day. A huge, heartfelt thank you to Malaysia Airlines for hosting us so warmly and making the fan community feel so incredibly valued.
