Malaysia Airlines’ first ever A330-900neo 9M-MNG, has finally arrived home in Kuala Lumpur. I was lucky enough to catch its arrival this afternoon complete with an escort and a flyby!

Well… that’s not good.
I’ve had the privilege of being invited to the preview of the aircraft’s product event a few months back, having known someone from the cabin planning side who was responsible for putting all of this together.
It’s quite refreshing to finally see a project materialise, as I’m sure those who are aware would be familiar with the rather dire situation that Malaysia Airlines often finds themselves in with regards to fleet development as well as future-proofing. Like many in the know, there was a lot of doubt over management’s interference possibly resulting in changes that do not involve us, and as you would imagine, that would have completely derailed their efforts.
Despite the initial hiccup in dispatch reliability, it seems as though that the new hard products are finding themselves to be rather popular among those who have had the luck to have flown on it. That being said, I’d probably be making efforts of my own to get a first-hand experience of the finished product on top of the mock-ups that I was shown beforehand. Overall the potential to be competitive with other regional carriers exists and this specific application of the Collins Aerospace Elevation seat on the A330 family of aircraft is a first worldwide. It’ll be interesting to see if any future carriers opt to configure their cabins with it.
