M4 iPad lagging at busy airports with traffic

I had no issues before, even with my previous device, a 2020 model. Tried reinstalling the app, and playing the BETA, but ran into the same issues.

Device: Apple iPad M4
Operating system: IOS

I have the same device and I am noticing some performance degradation at large airports as well. My gut tells me it’s an optimisation bug, because it hasn’t been like that before. I have no issues when in cruise.

You might want to try reducing the amount of traffic displayed on the live server by messing with settings in the Online tab.

Nothing is working for me. I highly doubt the IF team will create a patch to solve this issue unfortunately.

I was just thinking to upgrade to M4 from a 2019 iPad, but after this post I’m not so sure anymore lol

If that is really the case, then something is definitely wrong with the device.
I have the exact same device here.
Have you tried rebooting the device?

Why would you do that?
Optimizing things is an ongoing process.
Especially since new features continue to be added.
Unfortunately it’s not as simple as releasing “a patch”.

I had lag with the previous iPad occasionally, and sometimes during busy periods with my M4.

Mine is an iPad Pro M4 and it lagged and got superhot twice today only while controlling. This resulted in quick battery drain and the device refused to charge because of the temperature.

Hello, I had the same problem today and think I found the main cause of freezes at large airports.

Here is the solution:

In Infinite Flight on iPad Pro M4, the issue is often not low performance, but unstable frame pacing at 120 Hz (ProMotion).

At 120 Hz the game has only ~8 ms to render each frame, so when the camera moves and the simulator loads airport objects, textures, lighting, or aircraft models, tiny frame-time spikes become visible as micro stutters/freezes.

After limiting the iPad display to 60 Hz:

  • the engine gets more time per frame (~16.7 ms),

  • frame pacing becomes more stable,

  • shader/scenery loading is less noticeable,

  • camera movement becomes smooth even in large 3D airports.

So if you experience stutters on the ground or while rotating the camera, try enabling:

Settings → Accessibility → Motion → Limit Frame Rate

This forces 60 Hz and can significantly reduce micro stuttering on iPad Pro models with ProMotion displays.

I already tried it out and set full graphics and it works great! Hope it will help you all as well!

This is wonderful advice - I shall try it out

So iOS is commanding 120 frames per second even though the engine caps itself at 60, am I hearing that right? That seems like an optimization bug that could be fixed simply by adding a 120 FPS option to the game.

Yes, you understand it right. 120FPS screen tries to load everything twice faster, resulting in freezes.

Hi there,

I ran a diagnostic on my device, and sure enough, there was nothing that popped up indicating an issue.

How can I get support for this issue? The problem seems to present itself predominantly in multiplayer so it must be something related to optimization.
