Lufthansa to move restored Lockheed L-1649 to Frankfurt

Hello everyone!

15 years ago, Lufthansa purchased 3 former TWA Lockheed L-1649 to make a airworthy one. All 3 planes were shipped to the USA and work was made for years. But 2018 work was cancelled due to extreme costs. 2019 the aircraft was shipped to Bremen where it caught dust for 2 years until it was transported again to Paderborn. October 2023 the aircraft was transported to Lufthansa technic in Hamburg where work was continued. It should get the Lufthansa 1950s livery as soon as possible and should be moved to FRA together with the Ju-52 D-AQUI in time for the 100th Anniversary of the airline.

Wow, this is gonna be soo cool!!

A L-1649A flying again for Lufthansa-now that’s insane✈️([potentially silly question: is it going to be in commercial service or just a curio?)

Old airliners and their replacement parts are scarce, I doubt it’ll be used commercially.

It’s highly unlikely, but I heard that some airlines still fly the DC3

Some do, in Alaska. I think Breitling also flies it. We also don’t take into account the warbirds.
