I left my hotel in the heart of London around 4.5 hours before my flight home. I definitely overestimated how long it would take me to get to Heathrow. After a 5 minute walk to the station and 50 minutes on the Piccadilly Line, I was stepping into the beautiful departures hall of Terminal 3. Security was a breeze, and soon enough I was in the No1 Lounge, enjoying a great view of the apron. Boarding started a few minutes late, about 30 minutes before our scheduled departure time.
It was a totally full load aboard this Delta A330neo, with every single seat filled. Despite our late boarding, because of how efficient the crew and ground staff were, we were pushing back just 8 minutes behind schedule.
So long, London!
As we passed over water for the first time, not far from Liverpool, the flight attendants began the lunch service. I had a cauliflower salad for my starter, and the main was Chicken Curry Panang with Thai rice. It was a fairly decent meal - not amazing, not terrible. The seat was pretty comfortable, but I could see how the limited amount of padding could become an issue later into the flight.
Somewhere over the Atlantic, I got up to walk the cabin and stretch my legs. Gotta prevent that DVT!
The seatbelt sign came on as we caught our first view of North American soil, over Newfoundland and Labrador. I had been reading on and off up until this point, but decided it was time to check out the IFE. The screen was really nice and responsive, with a great moving map. There was a great selection of entertainment, certainly enough to keep you occupied even on Delta’s longest flights. I wanted to get up to stretch my legs again, but the turbulence kept that from happening, so I had to settle with a few episodes of Survivor.
We started our descent over the North Shore of Minnesota. As the flight attendants made their arrival preparations, we got some amazing views of the Duluth - Superior metro, right in the southwest corner of Lake Superior.
To set up for our approach for Runway 30L, we flew past the airport then made a wide U -turn for final.
Almost there!
Welcome to 'Murica! Customs was pretty busy, but the line moved fast. Soon enough, I was picking up my bag and heading home! All in all, a great flight. I’d definitely fly Delta transatlantic again.
