Line-up versus Hold Short

Hold Short means to wait with the nose of your aircraft on the line at your approved runway. Line-up means to get your aircraft on the runway waiting for the all clear to take off. Please make note when ATC is giving instructions.

And just to keep everyone on their toes, “line up and wait” used to be stated as “position and hold”.

Not on the line! That would be a runway incursion! Safely short of the line.

Exactly! Always think of you as the pilot and you need to see the hold short line from the cockpit
