Is it normal for an IFATC controller to have 2 planes line up on the same runway at the same time?
Yep. Nothing wrong with it. Used to expedite departures.
ok just checking thanks SM
It can happen yeah, but not very often. They know what they are doing :D
As long as there is adequate spacing between aircraft on the runway when they line up, all of good. It happens a bunch at KORD where a long haul is lined up for behind a regional jet as they depart from different areas on the same runway.
Also, sorry for repetition, but I love when 2 aircraft line up and wait at the same time, just something about it.
Yeah, it most commonly happens with intersection departures.
