Today with Tyler’s great schedule idea we get to move across the world and explore new airports. With @DimitriB we want to make the most of today’s schedule by offering you service to LKFC. If you don’t know the airport, it’s located up north of Corsica. It’s particularly interesting with the terrain around it. Takeoffs are mainly done on RW36 because of the mountains at the south of the airport. For landings, there’s a lovely visual approach that takes you very low and a late final turn. Here’s a video of the approach:
Are you up for the challenge?
today there is a lot of wind which will make things even more interesting. 18kts from the north!
We will be opening at 1400Z until 1600Z. Until then, I’ll try and tag with another controller to open approach. But 1430Z -1600Z is %100 guaranteed tower and approach.
Before flying in, please take some time to be familiar with the procedures. We will be doing visual approaches and once cleared, we expect you to fly the real procedure. Once landed, there is a back taxi. If you don’t know what a back taxi is, go visit #tutorials everything is explained.
Here is some useful information for the airport:
Update: I am open right now as tower and ground to build up traffic. Feel free to do patterns in small ga planes. Bigger planes are complicated because you need a sharp turn.
As soon as someone else can take tower I’ll take approach
Thanks! I have done that in a fixed base and on IF. However I don’t think I have ever been as nervous doing an approach in a long time! Glad I didn’t stuff it up :)
EDIT: expanded view of the chart in Cpt Joe’s video - you will need it!
Now this was great fun! Didn’t see this post until after landing, so I was hoping, but not expecting to be able to fly the approach on the chart I had printed out. Therefore I was genuinely surprised when I was actually vectored to the initial waypoint for the 36 visual and handed off to Tower.
I’ve done the circling approach into CLY a couple times, but being vectored to the airport by approach and being cleared for the visual just gives the whole thing a fantastic feel of realism.
I think suppporting real-life procedures and spotlighting the smaller, less known airports like Calvi is totally the direction in which IFATC should be heading more often in general in the future. Small things like these just make the overall Multiplayer/ATC experience so much better, at least for me personally.
So despite not being a hundred percent satisfied with my flare and touchdown, the ATC services well made up for it.
Keep stuff like this up and you’re safe to see me stopping by.
Thanks for your outstanding work, guys!
Cheers, AF5750 from Paris-Orly
I would like to share this picture of the final turn - a unique and nail-biting experience. The visual approach demands everything from you. All the more proud a pilot is the moment the aircraft is aligned with the runway. A big thank you to @Captain_Zen and @DimitriB!
