Couple of things. First, a holding pattern can be as large or small as you like. The controller will give you following directions if there’s a need for change. Second, I wouldn’t bother entering new waypoints if your runway changes. You should get used to using autopilot without LNAV engaged, relying instead on the heading bug and V/S. This is also where learning and getting good at manual landings is key. Runways changes are incredibly common at larger airports with multiple runways in use. I’ve almost come to expect it when flying into hubs. That’s where experience and knowledge are key. That’s also why I always recommend practicing and training before attempting to fly into a hub.
