While the Challenger 350 is great, Infinite Flight lacks a smaller business jet. The Learjet 45 would be the perfect plane to fit the gap as it’s a very popular business jet with over 600 built, as well as having a cool, more vintage cockpit. Please vote to bring more business jets into the sim!
History: The Learjet 45 was designed in the early 1990s, to compete with the Cessna Citation Excel, as Learjet’s very popular Learjet 35, was beginning to show it’s age. The company needed something more modern, as all Learjet’s since the Learjet 23, had been using a similar design for the fuselage and cockpit. The old
Learjet cockpits with mostly analog displays just weren’t selling in the 90s. As such the Learjet 45 was born! The Learjet 45 contains a cockpit with Honeywell Primus 1000 EFIS CRT screens, which were quite modern in the 1990s. It is also over 9 feet longer than the Learjet 35 it succeeded as well as being 5 feet longer than the Cessna Citation Excel it competed with. While all could carry 8 passengers, the Learjet 45 did so most comfortably. The plane took its first test flight on October 7,1995 and was certified by the FAA in September 1997. Unfortunately, because of complications in the design phase, some customers were delayed deliveries by over 2 years (Which honestly, isn’t too bad if you think of how the Boeing 777x lol). However it still managed to be a massive success, with 642 Learjet 45’s being built before production was ended in 2012. In total there are 4 variants (If you don’t count the fact that Learjet actually ended up making a more modern version of the Learjet 45, using the same design which is the Learjet 75/70). The Learjet 45XR version is slightly upgraded compared to the base model 45, the Learjet 40 is a slightly shorter model, made to replace the Learjet 31, and the Learjet 40XR is a slightly upgraded Learjet 40
