LAX Approach controller

I was flying towards KLAX and as soon as I was able to connect to Socal Approach I requested a visual approach RWY 25L. Controller responded with: Please check the user guide on the home screen … you know the rest and then said frequency change approved right after. Which lead to me flying to LAX without being on any frequency until I was able to connect to Tower who cleared me to land. But what did I do wrong whilst communicating with the approach controller?

Procedures for Appealing Violations and Providing ATC Feedback

Please seek clarification from the Controller in question through DMs :)

Hey FlyPilot, if you DM me your replay I can look into this and provide you with feedback.

Option #1: Share My Infinite Flight (Recommended)
  1. Go to ShareMyInfiniteFlight.com
  2. Upload your replay from your device.
  3. Copy and Paste the link it gives you into a reply to this message.

For more information please visit the Share My Infinite Flight (.com) tutorial.

Option #2: Google Drive

Share your replay through Google Drive or another file sharing service. Please make sure that the link you send is public. If the file is private we will be unable to access the replay for review.

[details=“Option #3: WeTransfer”]
Share your replay through WeTransfer. WeTransfer is a free and harmless file sharing service. It requires no account signups or personal information from you. The only thing that you’ll ultimately submit is your replay.

  1. Before you add a file, you must first have saved your replay locally to the device you’re on. So if you’re on iOS for example, share it from within Infinite Flight and click on “Save to Files”.
  2. Go to WeTransfer.com and click on “Send a file?”
  3. Tap or click on “Add your files”. From here you will go and retrieve the file that you saved in step 1 and upload it now.
  4. Once the replay has been uploaded, simply tap on “Next” and ensure that “Get a link” has been selected.
  5. Tap or click on “Transfer”. Tap on “Copy link” and paste that link here in this message as a reply.

Was this expert or training server?

I recommend bringing it up with the ATC controller, If it cannot be resolved. You can talk to IFATC about it.

FYI. This happened on the expert server and did not result in a violation but it left me confused.

The thing that could’ve possibly lead the controller to doing this is that in the atis the controller could’ve had expect ils. Normally when I am tuning approach I won’t request an approach and let the controller determine what approach u do.

Given that a report was not issued in this case, it’s more appropriate that the pilot reaches out to the controller directly, or in more severe cases, an ATC supervisor or moderator.

I’m happy to assist you in finding the controller if you aren’t sure who to contact, @flypilot111.

Are you sure it was SoCal Approach for LAX? All the approach and departure frequencies in Southern California have the same names and you have to be sure to select the correct frequency.

Yes, I double checked and I was on Socal Approach

You were most likely tuned to KPSP Approach and requested approach at LAX. They are easy to confuse since they are both called SoCal Approach.
