Landing Tips and Tricks?

I partially disagree with what @Capt_Derek & @Edward_Fish have said.
As I can see from your stats you are well on your way to the expert server. As IF is primarily an airliner based sim and the large majority of traffic on the expert server are jet aircraft, is it important you practise largely on those types. In the real world you may start on small GA aircraft , but that doesn’t really apply here.

Also to clarify the Tip 1 , speeds depend entirely on which aircraft you are flying. Just because the aircraft is bigger does NOT mean it has a higher rotation speed, approach speed, etc. Simbrief has a free performance calculator for most reworked aircraft in IF and you should use that to calculate your Vapp which is the speed you should be doing on final approach.

I didn’t read what others wrote before so pardon if what I’m about to say is repeated.

  1. Figure out what is the takeoff speed the particular plane type you’re using usually rotates. Landing speed should be slightly below that.

For me, I usually fly the 77W, A350, A333, A320, 738 and 739 but my rotation speed is about 150kts IAS. For landing, I like to keep the IAS at about 135kts and 145kts.

  1. Disconnect autopilot between 1500ft to 2500ft AGL if you want to manual land.

  2. The circle thing that you mentioned before, aim it for the touchdown point on final approach.

Keep your vertical speed around -700ft/m while maintaining the IAS mentioned before. At around 200ft AGL, you should aim to ‘increase’ that to around -300ft/m to -400ft/m

  1. Start your flare at 100ft AGL and adjust thrust accordingly for smoother landings.

  2. Continue pulling your nose up at about 5° and let the nose drop on its own while putting on reverse thrust.

I’m not a total expert on this but at least I feel my landings were smooth enough for me. I recommend practicing your landings on Casual Server and at not-so-busy airports, and not on Training or Expert Server as you might get violations if you accidentally veer off the runway or what not (but at that point, it’s better you do a Go-Around)

Hope what I said can help you out a little bit at the very least. I may not be able to bring out what I’m trying to say across in words that well so I guess the best is you continue practicing on your own to see what’s the sweet spot. Cheers!
