Landing this plane was harder than leaving my Ex Girlfriend

You know i’ve been pretty confident lately with flying as I’m getting smoother landings! But oh boy… not in this case. Please fasten your seatbelts, get a neck collar and a lawyer. You’re gonna need it.

Flight Info
Airline & Aircraft: Delta Airlines - Boeing 717-200. (Yes you heard that right)
Route: Des Moines, IA (KDSM) - Atlanta, GA (KATL)
Server: Expert…

So the beginning was going quite well! Pushed back from the gate, made a short taxi to the runway and departed Des Moines. Takeoff was incredibly smooth, and yes in good old IF.Kaden fashion I had to edit just one of the photos. Not a lot though! Just tilted the pic :)

I’m gonna skip cruising and everything because it was all good until I started my descent. Now I see why you need to be brave to fly this plane. I haven’t flown this plane in about 2 years and I don’t know what made me want to I just got bored I guess. I saw @AviatorVJ while descending into Atlanta. Well he saw me before I saw it was him. Thankfully he didn’t have to see what Southwest saw at the end.

Okay so my V/S was like -1200fpm and when I went into an outside view I was like "There’s no way this is -1200fpm…

OKAY BEFORE ANYONE SAY’S “You need to flare”. TRUST ME I DID. I FLARED AND USED TRIM AND IT PUSHED ME INTO THE GROUND.

This is just going great isn’t it? Aren’t you happy you didn’t have to witness this @AviatorVJ ?

And here we go.

Just your average day at Atlanta. Casual 717 skidding off the runway just like United Airlines in Houston. I bet Southwest enjoyed this performance I put on.

And here we are ladies and gentleman at Atlanta! I still got a nice pic of the tower.

I remember when @DJW tried to land one in Charlotte last summer when we did a group flight from BOS to CLT 😂

Great photos as always @IF.Kaden

Well that didn’t go to plan 🤣

Yes sir I am 💀. That’s why I avoid the B717 all the time. That’s like the most average B717 landing though so don’t worry.

Unironically I find the 717 one of the easiest planes to butter (with autoland, of course, last time I manually landed a plane was a few months ago).

Last time I checked, the 717 didn’t have autoland…

You don’t need to have the APPR feature. You can still set the runway to NAV1, and make your LNAV source the NAV 1. Then, you add 99 feet to the airport elevation and put that in for VNAV, and at 150 feet reduce speed with autopilot to 20 knots. It will be just starting to stall when touchdown happens.
