Korean Air A380-800 New York to Seoul

Aaand here’s the return trip from New York on Korean Air’s A380!

Server: Solo
Airline: Korean Air
Aircraft: Airbus A380-800
Origin: John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York City, New York (JFK)
Destination: Incheon International Airport, Jung-gu, South Korea (ICN)
Flight Number: KE82
Route: KJFK-RKSI
Seat: 1A (First Class)
Time En Route: 14 Hours 26 Minutes

Looking at our aircraft at Gate 5. Korean Air currently has 7 A380s in its fleet, 5 active and 2 in storage. The type was originally scheduled to be retired next year, but the backlog of A350-1000 orders and the unexpectedly rapid recovery of air travel has led Korean to indefinitely postpone their retirement, meaning the big jets will likely be around for some time still.

Taxiing out of the Terminal 1 ramp. We’re in one of Korean Air’s first-class seats which, although not the flying palace of Emirates or Singapore Airlines, still is one of the best in the business.

Departing JFK on a sunny afternoon. Korean Air sends both of its quadjets to New York, with KE85/86 being operated by the 747-8I and KE81/82 being operated by the A380-800.

Climbout over Manhattan

Cruising over Toronto, with Niagara Falls off in the very far distance

Riding the lower boundary of the Arctic Cirle as we cross the border from Canada into Alaska

Final descent into Seoul after sleeping most of the rest of the way across Alaska, the Bering Sea, the North Pacific, Japan, and the Sea of Japan. These are some really comfy seats!

Gentle landing at Incheon

Taxiing across the access roads behind Terminal 2

Deplaned at Gate 231 at the outstanding Terminal 2, probably the best all-around airport terminal in the world.
