Welcome to Costa Rica’s Guanacaste province! Located on Costa Rica’s west coast, the peninsula is a thriving tourist destinations, drawing almost a million visitors a year to its sandy beaches, warm waters, vibrant towns, and lush rainforests! I have been lucky enough to have been here, and its amazing!
Enter: Guanacaste Airport! Guanacaste Airport, located near the thriving town of Liberia, Guanacaste’s capital and largest city, is the gateway to Western Costa Rica, and the nation’s second busiest airport! It serves cities in North and Central America, as well as select European cities. A variety of airlines serve this airport, which sees over 800,000 passengers a year. After the COVID-19 pandemic decimated international air travel, in 2021, Guanacaste Airport rebranded itself, changing its name from Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport to its current name, which they felt better reflected Guanacaste province.

Guanacaste Airport has a 9,022 foot (2749 meter) by 150 foot (45 meter) long runway, plenty long for some of the large jets that serve the airport. There are several filed departure procedures, mostly using Runway 07. The airport is prone to turbulence, due to frequent storms during the “Green” season and mountain winds. Most departures are to the northeast, where aircraft will then make turns to their respective headings…
