July 12th | Gorgeous Guanacaste Flyout

Welcome to the Guanacaste Peninsula of Costa Rica!

The Guanacaste Peninsula is the most visited state of Costa Rica, and for good reason. Situated on the western edge of the country, it has over 400 miles of gorgeous white sandy beaches straight out of a travel magazine that attract surfers from around the world. The interior of the peninsula has much to offer too - its tropical dry forests are home to animals such as caimans, macaws, and various types of monkeys. The volcanic terrain plays host to an astonishing 5% of the world’s biodiversity.

Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (LIR/MRLB)

Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (LIR/MRLB), located just outside Liberia, the largest city and capital of Costa Rica’s Guanacaste Province, is the country’s second busiest airport—after San José’s Juan Santamaría International. What sets LIR apart, though, is its role as the primary international gateway to Costa Rica’s Pacific coast. While traffic is modest during the rainy season, the airport comes alive in the dry season (December to April), when hundreds of thousands of tourists flock to the region’s beaches, surf towns, and resorts.

LIR is served by more than a dozen international airlines, with nonstop flights from major hubs across the United States, Canada, and Europe. Seasonal service ramps up dramatically, and during the off season, there’s only a handful of routes operated. Private aviation is also big business here, especially during the high season, with celebrities like Miley Cyrus, Zac Efron, and Tom Brady known to visit the area, as well as numerous other more anonymous wealthy individuals who fly private.

I think it’s worth nothing that this is kind of a full circle moment for me in terms of events on the IFC. My first ever event was at this very airport, all the way back in June of 2023. Looking back on it, I had no idea what I was doing compared to now.

All sign ups are up to date!

Question: Would spawning in at say gate 4R and gate 4L cause any issues? I would think so, given they both are technically gate 4.

You raise a good point - I’ll look into that. Worst case scenario, I can make it into two waves.
