Josep Tarradellas-Barcelona-El Prat Airport Guide (LEBL)

Hello and welcome to this guide about Barcelona airport and the airport operations. As we get closer to the next update, Barcelona will be one of the new airports to have 3D. So if you want to see a sneak peak of the airport keep reading 👀. Personally I work at the airport and that is why I have created this thread to teach people who want to fly and know the operation of the airport.

Airport summary

Barcelona Airport, officially known as Barcelona-El Prat Airport, is one of the most important airports in Spain and serves as a gateway to the city of Barcelona and its surrounding areas. Located approximately 15 kilometers southwest of the city center, it is a bustling hub for air travel in the Catalonia region. The airport has two terminals: Terminal 1 (T1) and Terminal 2 (T2). Terminal 1, which opened in 2009, is the newer and larger terminal, handling the majority of international flights. Terminal 2, divided into three sections (T2A, T2B, and T2C), primarily serves low-cost airlines and regional flights. Barcelona Airport offers a wide range of domestic and international flights, connecting travelers to destinations across Europe and beyond. It serves as a major hub for airlines such as Vueling, Ryanair, and Iberia, offering a diverse selection of routes and destinations.

My home airport. 😍

IRL Runway 02 is only used for night landings.

What terminals would Cathay and Croatia Airlines park at? Struggling to find them on the terminal airline lists.

Terminal 1, just added now thanks

Ah okay, thank you so much for clarification!

Does it get any better? I doubt so.

It’s an amazing guide with a lot of detail, but I have a question. I am from Barcelona so I know the airport very well and I’ve never seen runway 20 being used, in which situation would it be used for departures?

I am not from barcelona but I have already seen it used for deps on FR24, I am surprised that someone local didn’t noticed it, I don’t know LEBL anyway so can’t answer your question sorry

When did you see this? I watch it on FR24 almost daily and I’ve never seen it.

20 is used VERY rarely, actually it was used 1 week ago after the TAP E190 incident which closed 24L/06R, it was also used back a while back for a reason I don’t know.

However, 20 is never used for arrivals, for obvious, noisy reasons

Ohh yeah that makes sense, it’s used on exceptional situations. I don’t know how I didn’t see the TAP incident, I follow that twitter account 😅.

It’s a very good topic, and nice work for the airport!

As I said before, runway 02 is only used for night landings. The case they comment on of the embraer taking off from runway 20 was an exceptional case. The 24L/07R runway for takeoffs and the 24R/07L runway for landings. In fact, currently the Catalan government wants to expand the airport with a new runway but it is having conflicts with other organizations because the airport is surrounded by a protected natural area.

Wow! Thanks for posting this! I flew into Barcelona yesterday from Paris, and didn’t taxi in to the gate as I should have. Guilty as charged.
