Before I get on, I don’t think this is a long question, so I hope this fits the guidelines for this topic.
I live right by JFK airport in NYC, but I don’t get to be amazingly close to the aircraft taking off and departing, so I wanna find a good spotting place by the airport I can go to. I’ve been to the broad channel parking lots, the Bryant something baseball field, Idewild park, Charles park (closest to my home and probably my favorite spot), and one more I can’t think of the name of. When I was younger, I remember my grandma taking me to a parking lot or something by one of the runways in the airport but we had to leave since it was for airport employees only. This was over 10 years ago, and I don’t know where it is located, or if it even exists anymore… On google maps however, I have found a possible alternative. It is a parking lot located by 22R. If you look at latest street views…. The employee-only parking signs aren’t there… has anyone ever spotted there, and do you think it’s worth the shot going there to try to plane spot? It looks great, especially on a day they are using the runway, it’s so close to the aircraft!
I haven’t been there but I can’t imagine JFK security would be too thrilled, the fence for the lot has “US Property, No Trespassing” on it. JFK already kind of doesn’t like spotters (same with a lot of NY airports). If you put your car in one of the garages or take the train over you might be able to stand against the fence? I’m not really sure how receptive security would be to that though. If you want to be close to planes I’d probably go to Rockaway (JFK Spot 5) or just go to EWR.
I would look at the spotter guide link posted above. Besides that, I know a lot of people like the top of the T5 parking lot, but I don’t think security does.
The park on the water by the 4s I think is a great spot. Doesn’t seem like they have issues over there, and it’s a great spot if they’re using the 4s or 31s. This guy uploads videos from that spot:
Thanks everyone for the suggestions, I’ve checked out that link @Alaska170 and I know of all of those, I think I’ll just stick with them for now in that case. One I’d like to try is the T5 parking lot, I’ve never been there @AndrewWu.
T5 was great when I went (August 2021) but it might be a bit tough now due to the construction. 31R arrivals should still be possible though, especially in the evenings (will be quite a far shot though).
