What does the squawk thing mean
Specific squawk codes are used for different emergencys-
7500 for hijacking
7600 for radio failure
7700 for general emergency
It means a aircraft is in a emergency situation
Squawk 7700 means General Emergency. This usually means the aircraft has to divert. Squawk 7700 is not necessarily a Mayday call.
Squawk codes are assigned to pilots by ATC to better differentiate them from other planes on the radar.
