Found this image of the United terminal at KSFO from the 1960s. Looks like they were going for maximum boarding efficiency at those gates. A unique arrangement for sure. The aircraft are Douglas DC-8-50s. (Photo Credit: San Francisco International Airport)

Interesting to see how things change. Back then, maximizing the number of planes and gates was not the concern. Today, you’ll see 10 planes parked with only a front entrance, facing the terminal. Cool to see the changes.
