ITA airways and Alitalia

Ok so here’s the thing. I know I might be a bit late on this but is ITA merged with Alitalia or is ITA a separate airline? Still confused.

Oh wait Alitalia ceased operation on October of 2021 😅.

And ITA took the most Airbuses who flew for Alitalia.

All the Boeings and Embraers are stored yes. Even some of the older Airbuses.

So ITA don’t plan on using any Boeing aircrafts?

Most likely not, I haven’t seen any ITA/Alitalia Boeing aircrafts in the skies in a while

welp, that’s a disappointment for Boeing lovers like me…

The fleet will consist of A220-100s, A200-300s, A319s, A320s, A320neos, A330-200s, A330-900s, and A350-900s.

Did they place an order for the a339 and A220 or they are discussing?

They placed an order a few months ago. Some will be leased, too though. The first A220 is already assembled (not wearing the livery yet)

For the a339 too?

Yes, for both

No, instead 2 B772’s (EI-ISB & EI-ISD) have been taken over by AlisCargo. This is a newly formed airline based in Malpensa which provides flights with a AZ94xx flightnumber. Their callsign is “Alis”.

Unfortunately i have to be the bearer of bad news - both ISB and ISD are as far as i know due for retirement soon, and AlisCargo maybe even for a temporary stop of operations, because both aircraft were preighters, which as far as i understand are on borrowed time now since EASA no longer wants to certify them. Both havent flown in the last 10 days more or less, and Alis already returned two other 777 preighters to their lessor a few weeks ago.

Some ex AZ 777s have been taken over by EuroAtlantic, but a lot are still stored at FCO. i was there a few days ago and counted at least 4 stored 772s

Well ITA did buy the AZ brand, so who knows, we might see it some day ;)

Hard to see Alitalia coming back. Lufthansa - MSC Delta, and Airfrace - KLM are on bidding for ITA.
